Re-veneering Belles

Recommended Posts

Klipsch woodworkers,

Does any one have experience re-veneering a set of Belles? They are clad in beat up oiled oak. I need your experience before I undertake this project. I am also planning on replacing the black frayed grill cloth.

I was thinking of using walnut, any other suggestions? How much veneer would I need, and suggested suppliers.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Hornlover60

Here is a shot of the veneer cut for my Belles. Veneer is Santos Roseword and the work was done by Cake. Since I can't do this work and don't have answers for you, I thought it might help to see how many pieces there are. We ordered the two sheets of veneer from a mill in the Carolinas thru a lumbar yard in Houston.

Probably not the best project to learn how to do veneer.

However if you must, sand & bondo every surface smooth.

Poly the cabinet so the veneer dosent peel.

Cut your veneer sheets to size, sand smooth & install then finish with whatever finish you like.

I purchased my veneer off eBay from a seller named "jsowoodproducts".

Got a single 4x12 sheet that did my Cornwalls. I ordered walnut and it was nicely figured and the width of the veneer allowed me to roll the grain up one side, over the top, and down the other side. I think the belles are too wide to have a single sheet of veneer do both cabs. So no matter what type of veneer you buy, you'll need to make sure they match closely enough so the finished product looks like a "pair of belles" instead of two re veneered speakers.

USNRET you are my hero....wow.

All I did was source the cheap Belles ($400 off CL), open the check book and Cake's "speaker spa" did the rest. During the job he discovered that he was allergic to the rosewood dust. With this and the ALK extremes and 2" horns they are no longer cheap.
