jcgill
What is a good price to pay for a pair of RF-7 speakers in good condition?
Moderators Youthman Posted June 17, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) Welcome to the forums. $600 would be a really good price, more than $1000 and you are paying too much. $800 is pretty average. How much are you finding them for? Edited June 17, 2014 by Youthman
jcgill
Thank you. I found one pair about 7 hours away for $500 but they have some visual damage so I'm nervous about those. But all other pairs I'm seeing are $1000 or more.
HudsonValleyNoah
To most buyers, good condition tends to actually = excellent condition. (to a lot of sellers, good condition tends to actually = fair condition.) $800 would be a good price to pay for a pair of Rf7's in excellent condition (local pick up.) $1,000 would a fair price to pay for a pair of Rf7's in excellent condition (local pick up.) Moderators Youthman Posted June 17, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2014 I think Noah is spot on with his advice. What type of "visual damage" do the photos show? $500 for RF-7's is a great price but if they are beat up, you might want to pass.
jcgill
what would you say is a fair price for these? only the dust covers are dented in and there are a few scratches on the casing (supposedly)
Thaddeus Smith
Make sure you delineate between RF-7's and RF-7 II's, as that could explain possible price discrepancies in the sub $1k and over $1k listings you find.
Moderators Youthman Posted June 17, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2014 It's hard to say from just those two photos. Are there any major scratches on the cabinets? Do they have the grill covers? Are there any broken tabs on the grill covers? Any rips in the grill covers? Any major dents or dings in the cabinet? Any dents, dings or creases in the woofer (apart from the dented dust caps) I would definitely request additional photos from all sides of the speaker before driving 7hrs one way. Moderators Youthman Posted June 17, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2014 Seller states in their ad The only problem they have is a little wear and tear, which doesn't affect their performance. The speaker cones have a couple of dents in them. The cases are scratched up a bit and the fasteners for the speaker covers are broken. It's due to this damage that I'm greatly reducing the price. Sounds like these have been "rode hard and put up wet".
Moderators Youthman Posted June 17, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2014 Have you verified from the seller that they are still available? If so, that might be why they are still listed after a month.
Moderators Youthman Posted June 17, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2014 On the bright side, at least they aren't as beat up as this pair for $400. Link
jcgill
They were still available about a few days ago when I checked last. The next cheapest pair I've found is $1000 but they're much farther away, although in better condition.
jcgill
WOW, those are terrible. I saw a pair go for $900 ten min from my house a month ago in original boxes, but didn't see the ad until a few days too late

True but if you look across the US for RF-7's, most are priced over $1000 ($1200 - $1400 isn't an uncommon listing although they don't typically sell at that price). jcgill
I'd love to get some RF-7 ii's but I just don't think it's within my college budget unless I find an absolute steal.
opusk2k9
Price depends on location and condition. The price around Chicago is likely a bit higher, $1200 would be a decent price for around here. Moderators Youthman Posted June 17, 2014 Moderators Share Posted June 17, 2014 Yeah, you might have to drive a distance to pick up a pair but as I mentioned in my PM (Private Message) to you, the key is being willing to be patient.
