derrickdj1 Posted August 28, 2014 Share Posted August 28, 2014 where did yall get the 703 board from? 6 ended up costing me 105 dollars I purchased my DIY panels from my neighbor who had them built for $11 each so I didn't actually order 703 myself. Also, @youthman, what software did you use to help set up the room? The software I use is extremely complex but I'm not fully convinced on how accurate it is. There are 4 parts that I used (both software and hardware). And if I were to be totally honest, I have NO idea how it all works but it's pretty amazing. Sorry, I couldn't resist. Yeah, my "calibration" consisted of my ears, my brain, Harman Kardon's EzSet/EQ with calibration mic and a Radioshack Analog SPL Meter. The pictures look like awesome help to keep from getting that 'crap that's not gonna fit' bump your head on the wall moment. I'm not a visionary so I need photos so I can see how it all fits together. Since I first began my HT, I have always used Photoshop to mock up my room. My buddy Wakejunkie is an engineer and Photoshop is 2D so he had to one up me and sketched up the entire room in Google Sketchup. It's an awesome program that allows you to draw your room in a 3D environment so you can get a feel for the exact size, depth etc. Best part is it's FREE. If you haven't already, check it out. I think I will do as large of a 16:9 that I can, and then I can still use it as a 2.35! maybe I will make some quickly removable black boards. I did a lot of research and decided for my needs, a CIH (Constant Image Height) using 2.35:1 worked best for my setup since my room is primarily used for movies. I LOVE having a cinescope screen. It really sets it apart from what my friends experience on a 16:9 setup on their TV's. I just posted about that, I think I will go with 16:9 and then mask it off for 2.35:1. best of both worlds, and no regrets. Also depends on whether you will have one row or two rows of seating. With 1 row, you can easily go with 150" screen. I want/need 2 rows. going to use the existing couch for the first row, then build up just like you have for the second row. eventually I may or may not replace the first with cinema style seating. my couch is veeerrryy comfortable! Use the Projector Pro at projector central to plug in that BenQ projector and play with it to see what throw distance you will need and such. after checking out the benq I realized it didn't even have hdmi. think I will opt for a different one. I like the zoom feature you were talking about. right now, I am focusing on prepping the room. also the massive bbq I am having sunday evening. It will also make finding a projector easy. 2.35 is better for movies being most are shot this way. But you will lose some screen when playing games and for most tv (some are in 2.35). I love having a nice comfy reclining couch, and would have never thought of changing it. But that was when we spent all are time in that room (tv games and movies). But now we only use it for movies so I have been thinking of getting some really nice large reclining movie theater chairs. But imo if your going to use the room for everything day and night. I only have one couch, and the orientation really makes it hard to add any seating. the long way ill have room for 2 rows. I really like the way youthmans back row is built up some. im pretty tall at 6'7" so the poor guys sitting behind me wouldn't otherwise be able to see. on a side note, I did end up winning the la scala for 250! now I gotta drive 300 miles to pick it up. Believe I used 2" x 10". 11" works perfect for my screen height so it depends on how low the bottom of your screen is and how close your back row is to the screen. If we would have added plywood to the bottom of my riser, it would have raised it up to about 12". Here are some pics of my riser build. Porn_Star Posted August 31, 2014 Author Share Posted August 31, 2014 slow update tonight. i got my 703 board in. wow its a lot softer than i thought. i will make a frame around each one, and canvas it to give me nice sharp edges. once i get to this (my truck sprung a leak on the power steering pump) i will take some pics and what not. here is my ideas for the acoustic panels. 1. build a frame around them 2. dye the canvas black (opposed to painting to keep from making a hard acoustically reflective shell over them) 3. wrap the canvas around the frame and insert the board in behind it 4. put a hanger on them similar to a picture frame cord 5. have my friend paint klipsch, samsung, and harman kardon logos on 3 of them. then have him paint the hobit lascala tshirt theme on the 4th, the rf7ii sketch on the 5th. 6. im lost on the 6th. give me ideas?
