Moderators Youthman Posted December 23, 2015 Moderators Share Posted December 23, 2015 Welcome to the forums. According to Dolby, Option 2 would be the recommended location. http://www.dolby.com/us/en/guide/surround-sound-speaker-setup/5-1-setup.html

willland
Shady, Welcome to the forum. I agree with Michael here but is it possible for you to move your couch forward about 1.5 to 2ft and float it? You then will not have as much sound reinforcement(boominess) from the rear wall. Paducah Home Theater
You may want to consider rotating that room 90 degrees if you haven't torn into it too much at this point. You'd have more flexibility in the seating position, side surround position, and when you add rear surrounds for 7.1, they will sound better with more space behind you. Keep the 42's for the side then you can add some bookshelves behind you. Put your equipment on the wall on the right, your couch to the left. If you ever upgrade to an acoustically transparent screen, you will already be at the perfect spot to build out and totally enclose it. As it stands right now you'd have to build out in the middle but you'd have to end it before the door which is much more awkward. Rotating it 90 degrees clockwise may be a better long term solution if possible.I hacked up your beautiful drawing into a ghetto sketch and don't pay too much attention to exact placement, but the basic idea would be this. It would be a better solution now as well as for expanding in the future. You'd have room for a second row of seats as well. As it stands now you have a lot of wasted space on the left and right. If you're not too invested in your current room layout, I think you'd kick yourself in the future if you continue down this path. If you did this it may be better if you can swap that door around on the top right so it opens into the room but otherwise I'd say it's a no-brainer. 007nco
Welcome! I immediately thought the same as MLO rearranged for you above. Otherwise the Dolby and THX patterning depending on how much you do in future. Enjoy!
