Marvel
So this guy in Sweden added a Tang Band 2" full range onto the back of a JBL 2386 horn. No back chamber, and used a simple resistor and cap for the filter. Oh, the woofers sitting with no cabinets or baffles are 24". The meter only shows the TB/JBL response, He says the woofers do okay to 30Hz. Bruce Edited June 23, 2016 by Marvel
CECAA850
Ummmm OK. If he says so. I can't see how you'd get anything out of those woofers with no baffle.
Don Richard
Suspicious.
Marvel
The woofer situation seems very suspicious, but the TB driver on the horn probably does ok, although it's dropping past 10Khz. My son used a 5 inch speaker on a wood tractrix horn he built and they sounded pretty good. Crazy, though... and it looks like the room is only about 7-8 ft. wide. twk123
I am sure it works fine until his buddys come over and his friend has a few drinks and turns the volume knob past '3'...
mustang guy
They look like Precision Devises PD.2450's. http://www.precision-devices.com/Product-Range/Models/24 Those 24" drivers are $1,389 each and weigh 70.37 lbs. I suppose the speaker frame itself could act as a baffle if it is braced well. Does anybody know how to model an open baffle (actually no baffle) speaker? CECAA850
10mm x-max wouldn't do well in an open baffle I'm guessing.
mustang guy
I modeled it.... I think...
mustang guy
This driver in the right enclosure and proper HPF in place is a beast. About 125-128db between 29Hz and 600Hz.
CECAA850
This driver in the right enclosure Bingo.
efzauner
I modeled it.... I think... why not calculate with a baffle size of 24 inches to see what this guy is hearing? Too fun though. what these esoteric "simplify ad infinitum" idiots try and think work!
