Time to cover your ears.

Soundthought

Hello to all that are listening.

A bit of valuble info to all ye of such sound minds.

It is imperative that we pay heed to that which is dangerously loud.

With that I give you;

Permissable Noise Exposures.

Duration/hours = Sound level in db

8 = 90

6 = 92

4 = 95

3 = 97

2 = 100

1.5 = 102

0.5 = 105

0.25 = 115

The above restrictions are based on the Occupaional and Health Act of 1970.

The Code basically states that if the exposures are exceeded, then hearing protection must be worn.

*Note that these are based on the "A Scale" of a standard sound level meter at slow response and will change if some other standard is set.

Be aware of excessive volumes.

It's far to easy to exceed these levels without realizing it.

Especially, with our mighty Klipsch particle disrupters.

I believe,

To live and to love,

To listen for life.

But, if I buy more speakers,

I'll never land a wife.

Enjoy the music in everthing.

Cover your assets when needed.

Don't forget to floss. :)

Just a little helpful info from your neighborhood audioreality.

Hear ya'll later.

I think per day. My Rat Shack SPL meter HAD that chart, but it is lost (but NOT gone, it is around)

Oh, after 115 dB., you are screwed, so don't think 120 dB. is for 5 minuites!

Honestly, 115 dB. for 15 minuites is enough time to enjoy your favorite song a few times a day, no bad!

121.5dB is as loud as it gets on any Dolby recorded DVD... and that is usually only for a fraction of a second. It creates realism without harming your hearing. The big problem comes from sustained listening at high levels. Having a high volume for microseconds, however, really adds to the drama of DVD. -HornED

on one occasion i measured a peak average of 118 dB at my seating position! one serious round of 'for those about to rock' on ac/dc 'stiff upper lip' results in ear ringing1

i enjoy the impact of leaning on the volume-but yea! we all gotta be careful so we can continue to enjoy!

avman.

p.s.: can you speak-up? i own klipsch-check the sig!

HA anything over 110 sustained is LOUD and can seriously start to leave marks on your hearing.My BIG Klipsch setup can belt over 115 sustained with no audible compression!On peaks its over 124dB

What I did test at hellacious levels are my subwoofers,the most irritating output is at 31.5Hz where the Sunfires(5 counting the two Knight Shadow subs)can dish out over 124dB sustained!Talk about vibrating walls.

I also tested the HGS18 alone in the smaller room at 122dB at again 31.5Hz!Mighty impressive,the small room is a bass booster to subs perform very well there.125dB was recorded for the Revel B15 and just under 120dB for the Aerial SW12.The Aerial is the best performer at 20Hz where it can still sustain 107dB!Impressive for one 12"

With the Ultras/Carver TFM-75(1000W RMS per channel into 4 Ohms)I managed a massive 118dB at 20Hz in the small room!Impressive and ears bleed deluxe.In the larger room I lose 4-5dB output depending on placement.

Ultras are kings of the deep,quite amazing considering the fact they retail for under 2K USD!After all when you place an ultra heavy duty driver in a giant toilet paper roll you save big.

My left ear is a bit less sensitive to sub bass then the right! 6.gif

I may sure all subwoofer makers who caused this loss 3.gif

Seems that Klipsch and Loud are synonomous. Anyone else notice how a lot of the classified ads for Klipsch speakers include the words "large," "loud," or "heavy"? Or just give the dimensions of the speakers without giving model information? Hmmm, makes you wonder what's causing them to sell 'em.

Well, basically "A" and "C" weighting measure different loudness contours.

"A" is most suited for low level sound measurement. Roughly 40 - 60Db.

"C" which offers a flatter response curve is more suitable for the presense of loud sounds. 60+

"A" being the prefer measurement of O.S.H.A.

This allows them to obtain lower readings than they otherwise would.

The innapropriate use of the "A" scale works in favor of those who don't wish to be resricted.

Just in case anyone was wondering.

Welcome back miss clue.

I had thought you had bailed to the Corova Milk Bar before a bit of the UltraViolence.

That's where I would have gone. :)

Ahhh.. beautiful Ludwig Von.

Good to see ya, crazy lady.

BTW, why no home tunes?

Your kitty commandos kick you to the curb? (Curdled milk syndrome)

Did you have to evacuate for flea fumigation? (infectous little bugeous)

I agree.

That's why I bought two more subs.

Sucks, but it did the trick.

I strive to be moved physically as well as emotionally.

I find it fairly easy with 2 channel.

But terribly difficult for HT.

I want the sounds to penetrate my soul and devour my spirit in a reactive dance of emotional foreplay.

Without giving me a headache. LOL.
