Lynn - hehehehe, what's a ghettoblaster? 2.gif No steroids?? Come ON!? Why not? j/k

Like I said, not intent/harm in my post, just trying to be devil's advocate sort to speak. But if you must, hand me my "ghettoblaster" and I'll start the count down 9.gif

Skonopa - Thanks for the back up, I hoped someone would catch the sarcasism, I have nothing against the "chronologically challenged" as you put it 3.gif hehe Like I said and you said, we have no idea why he did what he did with that magnificant HT and using Bose, but hey, it's his money not ours 2.gif

Yeah, they just opened up this past April, like the week right after Easter. It is in that "Central Park" area, kinda across the street from the Central Park Funland. It is right on the corner of that road that leads into the "Uptown" area.

BTW, if you do come up for the holidays, let me know. If your are interested in hearing the RF-7s, I'll let you come over to my place to give'em a listen, since that Tweeter does not have any on the floor (I had to get them to order me a pair to try out at home).

As for prices, not really that great, especially compared to what you could find on-line. I did manage to talk a %10 discount out of them, primarily because I was buying a complete system (RS-7s, RC-7s, and sub, along with the RF-7s). However, I did get excellent service from them and they did let me try serveral speakers out (including a complete set of Reference 3 speakers) before I settled on the Reference 7s w/ REL Storm III sub. On top of that, they even threw in a free 12 issue subscription to Sound and Vision 1.gif .

I am laughing my butt off. I tried Cambridge sound, bose, and boston acoustics and then finally Klipsch. Understanding how money can be tight I focused on the equipment since who will care what the room looks like when the movie was playing and the lights were dimmed. What matters to me was the sound and sight along with the cushy recliner.

My friend boasted how awesome his bose system was. After seeing and hearing my stuff I can't get him out of my cellar.

Later and thanks for hte laugh

Hey There OP

I apologise. I came down on you like the proverbial ton when a simple raspberry would have sufficed.

What I like about the guy's room is that while it is elegant it would not necessarily be terribly expensive to duplicate ,(aside from the AV equipment) , if one were prepared to invest a lot of sweat equity. Whoever designed the room obviously has a good feel for the aesthetics of the cinema houses of the '20's and 30's. What has been created is by no means a duplication but more accurately a reflection of the essence of those lovely old movie houses.

I also feel that he could have gotten a heck of a lot better audio for the cost of the Bose but as others have pointed out - It's his money and his home --- And I suspect he loves what he has built!

He evan filleted the front corners, so now there is not room for Khorns.

You know what would be cool to do here? That filleting in the corner looks to be about the same angle and width of a Khorn. I would knock out enough of the filleting from the floor upto the height of a Khorn and then put the Khorn in the space created for it. I bet the filleting above the Khorn would be flush with the face of the Khorn. That would make a very nice, clean installation and the Khorn would not take up any more floorspace that the filleting has already took up. Stick a LaScala or Belle in the Center under the screen (which, I agree with m00n, it could use a frame) and that would make for an awesome front stage. As for the rears, that would be more difficult. A second set of Khorns would not work since the door that enters the room would interfere. Maybe a second pair of LaScala/Belles along the sides and another LaScala/Belle for the rear center. Stick a pair of SVS Ultras ala "HornED Tower of Power in the rear corner opposite of the door and you got a nice Audio setup. Hook it up to your choice of Pre/Pro, amps, DVD, etc, and there you have it 9.gif.

Also to add. I am willing to bet that with a bit of diligent shopping around on the used market, the 2 Khorns and 4 LaScalas could probably be had for less than what this guy paid for the Bose Lifestyle 50 setup he currently has. Heck, may even be worth it just to find any old pair that has beatup, but still sound cabinets. That way, they could just be painted to match the wall color. If really lucky with the deals, may have money leftover to get hopefully at least a Denon AVR3802 or similiarly priced/equiped reciever. For that type of setup, I'd go and get good seperates, though.

Hey some people DO like bose.

Like the people on this forum:

i dont wanna post forum link i dont wanna get yelled at.

They say they wanna buy it but its expensive and things like THIS BOSE THING GIVES OUT MAD BASS.

Heres a quote:

----------------

But Best Buy have Bose speakers in their display. I couldn't believe that those two little satellite speakers put out as much sound as monsoon sound 5.1. Bose is unfreakin real! Too bad I can't afford any of their stuff either. ----------------

------------------

CREWIN VEGA = TEH WINS FOR SUBS

Sony or Kenwood = teh wins for packages

------------------

----------------

BAH a 5.1 dolby with 450watts owns all ......... besides the kilpsch sub only hits 35hertz ........ my kenwood sub goes down to 20. so anyone who wants to get new speakers for there comp.... buy a suroundsound system ment for a home theater and buy an adapter like this
and you will beat any system ment for a computer

--------------

---------------

actually i live near a bose outlet, and although they are a bit pricey the quality of sound is great and they last for a long time. Bose is not as good as it used to be but as long as you dont buy a package set most bose speakers are wonderful and if I had the money to waste on some bose equipment......i think i would.

Now as for good brands or speakers: Sony(systems are nice and spearkers sound true), Kenwood(i love kenwood, great stuff) Crewin Vega(for all you bass masters out there, Crewin Vega makes some of the best subwoffers on the market, Aiwa(speakers arnt to good but the recivers and cd players are quite nice) and last but not least Sansui (IF YOU CAN GET A SANSUI RECIVER WITH TUBES YOU WILL BE A HAPPY PERSON) <<< dont forget a graphic eq.

-----------

--------------

Anywho, for anyone who wants a REALLY nice sound system get crewin vega. for your comp or for your theater system and i will not let it go!

-----------

Here is this "persons" home theater that he says is better than my denon3802/ref3 home theater

Kenwood 450 watt with 5.1 dolby.

50watt kenwood sub at 20hertz.

220watt bass amp used as a sub

27inch sony trinitron

xbox

proscan dvd player

Heres what they said about klipsch

--------------

You can say one thing about BOTH home and computer products. They both have VERY bright highs. This is because the Home Speaker products all have Horn tweeters, I have heard of people dampening them to get some of the shrill out of them, i have considered this myself. I can make yer ears bleed i turned them way up =). The Promedia's also have VERY bright highs, altho it's not because they have horns, as they do not. I think it is more of a function that it really has a VERY crappy midrange driver, so if you turn them up to any substantial level the midrange will be drowned out by the OVERPOWERED sub and the VERY bright highs....so you try to compensate by running the sub down to a minimum(as mine is set) and dial any eq you have to lower the highs...then you turn it up more...result...mids cant handle it and the speakers distort.

------------

---------

I've haven't tried alot of speakers but have some Bose at home and the bass is sweet.

-----------

SIGH i got tired of arguing that night.
