Coytee
I've seen various tubes and pictures of various tubes. I'm more familiar with the stereo tubes and not so familiar with the broadcast or other types. I notice some are straight sided, some are wider at top, slender down to the bottom, some have a bulge in the middle section, some look to be round like a Christmas tree ornament. I'm just curious is there a functional reason for the various shapes or is that more of an artistic design choice to simply differentiate a KT88 from a 300B? (I'm guessing it has to be aesthetic choices not functional choices)
kevinmi
I've wondered that myself. You can get 6550 tubes in both a straight tube, like the GE's, or the fatter in the middle tube, like the Tung-Sol's. I'm sure some designs are functionally stronger, but I don't know if it comes into play on stereo tube design.

MeloManiac
Perhaps it has to do with heat distribution? The bulge is where the temperature of the internals is the highest? Verstuurd vanaf mijn 5047U met Tapatalk
