Amp/Preamp suggestions

Recommended Posts

I have a pair  of 1976 LS that i am looking to upgrade the electronics that feed them.2 channel music listening . Open to separates or a good integrated.  Prefer SS to tubes. Source will be a network streamer

budget $1500-2k. I have gone back and fourth on vintage VS new.  Musical tastes include every from Tool to smooth jazz

suggestions please and thank you

Take a look at the current Yamaha A-S1200 or last generation A-S1100.  Vintage look, neutral/warmish sound, plenty of low end grunt.

@willlandThat Yamaha is interesting price is comparable to a Parasound Hint6. I believe the DACS are the same and really good

No DAC in the Yamahas.  Strictly analog integrated amps.

ZERO issue with head room on a PP design... dampening factor is lower so there is less LF response, but you won't miss it.

Are you saying you are looking for amplification and it could be in the form of separate amp or integrated/receiver?

If so vrd is excellent tube amp.

If you are actually contimplating a preamp give Schiit Fraya + a look. Gives you both passive, which is an interesting if you have never experienced, and tube gain stage that you don't have to use full time.
