My DJ setup, in ‘75, used a Meteor mixer fed by two Technics tables with Stanton 681EEEs. It included a mic, but I did not bore the dancers with chatter. If they wanted to make a dedication, they needed to do so themselves, which had a chilling effect on dedications. With 600 watts of Dynaco power into 4 Speakerlab SKhorns, the nonstop music was usually more than enough. Once, at Cranbrook Kingswood—which is an exclusive private school in Bloomfield Hills (I know you know this Claude, but others won’t), a group of young girls wanted me to dedicate Rich Girl, by Hall & Oates, to Leah Iacocca—daughter of Lee Iacocca. The mean-spiritedness of these rich girls who wanted to disparage Leah Iacoca for being a richer girl, was ironic. I declined, and they were unwilling to do so themselves.

Around here we get folks for parties starting at $250. All playlists streamed from a laptop. Unfortunately, the speakers are... for the less expensive gigs, self powered 15 inch direct radiator p.a. cabs. And maybe a sub. They aren't great to start and get progessively worse as the room size goes up. I finally hauled out my LS for our Filipino Christmas party last year. The bass even impressed and was clean from front to back. About 125-150 in the room. I wasn't very prepared, but it worked out fine. @DizRotus The 4 SKs would have rocked!

I built a system for my brothers that used only 2 LaScalas. They made money with it.

DizRotus
I do not recall the model, they were not terribly expensive, but they performed flawlessly. Using Sennheiser HD 424 headphones, I could back cue them. They reached speed in less than a third of a revolution.
Marvel
I Had a couple pair of the HD414 headphones. Loved them very much.
