Randy Taylor
Last year I purchased a pair of Heresy 11's but soon found that the solid state receiver that I had was much to bright and harsh with the klipsch speakers I had so I purchased a H.H. Scott 299B off E-bay and it sounded great with the speakers, but being 40 years old I started to think about a new power amp (tube)to replace the old scott in the future. I have read on line somewhere about a company that has done a reissue of one of the old Marantz tube amps with lots of improvements to the amp. Dose anybody know any info on this reissued amp thank you!
Ray Garrison
Randy, Before you zero in on any particular brand / model of tube amp, spend some time looking / listening around. We're in the middle of what can only be called a tube renaissance. There are more choices today for power or integrated tube amps than there has ever been before. From the sublime (check out http://www.divertech.com/mgsi15dt.html for a $599 integrated tube amp using KT88 in single ended mode) to the ridiculous (uh, http://www.audionote.co.jp/pwramp/index.htm for a $252,000, 55 watt 211 based monobloc power amplifier) you have a world of choices. Randy Taylor
Thanks for the info so far guys, but I live 140 miles from the closest High end audio shop. Unless you think Radio shack or Circuit city are High end Ha Ha!I did take your advice Ray and ordered the Wave AV-8 mono blocks today. $99. each it would be nice if they do sound good. I have a pre-amp on order from Bottlehead a $289 kit called the Foreplay that I have read sounds great Ill try my Waves when I get it built and let you all know how it sounds . Talking about the Bottlehead amps has anybody tried the 300B amp kit they have with Klipsch speakers, I would like to know how they sound $1600 is a lot to spend on a kit that I never heard to be disappointed with the end product. Spider124
I'm wondering, if you got the Foreplay Whole Deal, why you didn't get the Paramours? ($550, I think) Charlie
Weiming
Hi Randy, I am not using the Bottlehead 300B amp, but the 2A3 Paraglows instead. 2.5 watts only, but they are able to drive my Cornwall Is close to ear-bleeding levels. I have hit SPLs of 102 dB easily if I am not careful with the volume control of my Foreplay The Paraglows replaced my YBA power amp. The YBA was my reference amp till the Paraglows came along. Cost a lot less too! And it is mostly stock so far except for a revised grounding scheme I implemented. I think Kent120 in this forum uses the Bottlehead 300B Afterglows with a pair of vintage Heresy Is, so he might give you a better perspective on using 300Bs. Weiming. Randy Taylor
Thanks for the info Weiming I have seen the 2A3 Paraglows and what I read they have great sonics, but I was worried that they might be not strong enough with Heresy II 96db/watt for the rock I still listen to even at the age of 50 that is why I was looking at a 300B amp. graydy
im using a dynaco st70 tuber with heresy11, the sound is very nice, using Marantz ss 1090 as preamp. I have 0 complaints with this set up from jazz to classic rock....all good
alxlwson
Dynaco "clones" are pretty awesome for the H11's. A few years ago dad and I built an ST120 stereo amp and a SP14 preamp from Tubes4hifi.com to run his H11's. I highly suggest them! It's a great project with fantastic results. The tubes they provide from the kits are fairly decent, and you can really kick it up with your own tube selection. TubeHiFiNut
Have you considered getting the Scott refurbished? It is a very nice tube integrated amp.
