RSA-500 Auto vs Trigger

For years I had my RSA-500 hooked up to a HK AVR that had a trigger port. 

The HK finally died and I replaced it with an Onkyo TX-NR6050.

Unfortunately, the Onkyo does not have a trigger port so I've been trying to use the Auto function.

 

I'm noticing the RSA-500 will turn off if what I am watching doesn't have enough bass... and then lags a bit when a heavy bass moment occurs.

I did max out the subwoofer output on the Onkyo but it is still powering off.

 

Doing a little research, it sounds like I have a few options:

1) Leave the RSA-500 on at all times.

I'm not sure how much power the unit draws, or how much heat it creates when idle.

The unit is in a cabinet where the fans only operate when the Onkyo is on and active.

My fear is that I'm paying extra money for electricity, just to generate heat that will slowly bake everything in the cabinet.

 

2) A Y-Cable... somewhere.

The Onkyo has 2 subwoofer pre-outs.

The RSA-500 has 1 LFE input.

Do I use the Y cable (2 male RCA to 1 female RCA) to connect to the 2 subwoofer pre-outs?

It sounds like this would double the signal but would that be enough?

 

3) Something else.

I've been looking at other ways to turn the RSA-500 on and off but nothing seems to be integrated.

Wifi switch... but then that's separate control.

Auto-sensing power switch that will turn on sockets if a "master" socket starts drawing power... but the Onkyo is always drawing a little power.

Any other ideas?

Welcome I had somewhat of the same problem. An amp on auto mode would go to sleep at times because of a lack of signal.

 

I had to just put it to ON when using and stop using auto on. I would think it just has an ON option?

 

Try using ON instead of auto, you just need to remember to turn it to on when you want to use it, that would be better than leaving it on all of the time.

I’m confused.  An RSA-500 is a passive Atmos speaker.

Reference Subwoofer Amp, dual mono 500 watt amp for passive subs.

Another could be a power switch that is connected to the 500 only, operated by remote. Leave unit in on position.

What about powering the RSA by connecting power to a switched outlet on the Onkyo.

Oooops, no outlets.

buy  another used nHK AVR  with  a trigger port.
