Klipsch AL5 mounted on shelves?

Recommended Posts

Hi All, this forum is the best! Love all the posts and professional opinions on here.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice on mounting of the AL5's on a shelf (at around listening height) where the shelves were essentially cabinetary with lots of vinyl/records/plants etc within the cabinets. The speakers would essentially be encase in cabinetary and would be about 12" away from the the rear wall. Listening distance from them would be about 5-10 feet.

Fidelity doesn't need to be "super" hi-fi, but it would nice for them to not sound muffled or too damp.

Any thoughts? See image below as an example of what the cabinets may look like.

Thank you ! Any advice would be very helpful.

You'd have to have openings for the bass cabinet output, and with that design you'd be blocking one side of the bass horn. Makes no sense to me.

I agree with pbphoto; get some bookshelf speakers and a subwoofer and put THEM in the cabinetry, with preferably a front firing subwoofer.

I agree with what's been said already. But I also think the proper height of the speaker is when it is resting on the floor. Raising it up will only hinder sound quality when seated, if that's important to you. Best to use them as designed or not use them at all.

Thank you everyone. I agree the rear needs to be open, just didn't really understand how major the impact would be phonics wise.

Agree that a bookshelf speaker would make more sense given it's already fully enclosed

Thank you!!
