The configuration of ALL 12AU7 was actually a product of the Cary factory. The content of the manual and schematics for the preamp is actually the same as the content for an SLP94. BTW, the chasis of the unit is chrome though it does not quite show as such in the photo. Someone once said it looked more like a piece of fine jewelry than audio equipment.

Klipsch out.

PS. Dean, you have email.

This isn't another one of those 'Randy Bey Specials' is it.9.gif

Seriously though -- where in the heck is the transformer?

The thing I'm really curious about is the two knobs on the right. If those are gain controls, I'm going to be very happy.

Those are two gain controls that take place of the balance; the volume is still used and is the big knob. And like most Cary preamps that were capable of phono, the power supply trans is in a separate enclosure, moved away from the circuitry. Obviously, this is more important with phono but still nice via any pre. The filtering, on the other hand, is located on the back chassis. Surprised you didnt know about the power transformer part, Deano. btw, if you look closely, you can see the two spots where the phono preamp tubes go. This is a common mod done by Cary if you ever do wise-up and go analog! heh...
