Thank You Craig (NOSValves)...My 299 sounds great!...

...I've had it hooked up for the last 3 days in my garage, driving a set of Dynaco A-25's with a Sansui TU-717 tuner. Talk about a great vintage system on the cheap! I've never heard imaging like this before. It is DEAD quiet, with absolutely ZERO noise in any of the knobs. As soon as my cabinet from Marc arrives, I'll bring it in the house for a run with my Cornwall's. Then maybe over to Andy's for a little soiré with his K-Horns. Unless it kicks butt on the Cary in my main system, it'll be parked in the office with the A-25's, Sony 5000FW tuner, MMF tt, and an as yet unamed cdp.

Sidebar - The Dynaco's are fabulous speakers. Got them for $50 from a friend and had them cleaned/checked out by Howard at Audio Specialist. Soon they'll be going to The Strip Shop (The guys who refinished my CW's.) for a refinishing and one of the wife's friends is going to redo the grill screens for me. This is way too much fun. Next project, getting my Fisher X-101 back from Mike Zuccaro and finding a set of Heresey's for the bedroom.

Once again, Thanks Craig!

Chris

PS Not to worry, I'll be biasing the tubes after a few more hours of settling in, per your instructions.

Chris,

Glad you love it !! Another Scott 299A with telefunken 6U8's. Its suppose to be a distortion device LOL !!!

The bias should be safe but your wall current may be different them mine so set it when the amp is good and warm and then check it again in a couple weeks and then in a month and then forget it for 6 months unless your anal like me I check mine every week LOL !!!

Craig,

Please, reading "anal like me" with a picture in my mind of what your ugly mug probably looks like (Remember, I overheard you order lunch - " yes, double cheese and a large fry.") was too much and I almost lost my breakfast. Which BTW, was chopped steak, scrambled eggs, onions and cheese from the famous "Mike's Hockeyburger" right across the street from my warehouse here in very rainy downtown Los Angeles.

Just kidding, thanks again,

Chris

PS Kelly if you read this, I apologize for the sick humor and/or lack thereof.

Craig and other forum members,

I swear I started this thread before I read the poop flying in the "Replacing tubes in LK48" thread.

Craig,

Don't let that guy get your goat, or sheep, or donkey for that matter. If someone feels the need to toot their own horn (or compression driver), it's usually due to some feeling of inadequacy. If you have to call yourself "...Expert", "President For Life", "Most Exaulted Excellency" or whatever, it's probably 'cuz you're not.

Regards,

Chris

PS If my 299 does blow up, you'll be hearing from my lawyer, the honorable Johnnie Cochran. Who once said, "If the tube sounds good and's a perfect fit...then not to worry, it's legit."

Chris, I look forward to hearing your amp! I have wondered what the sonic differences are between the 222 series and the 299. (Now to paint these cheap tubes with "telefunken" logos so I can pull a fast one on ya! 9.gif ) Did you order your tubes from Upscale or did you pick them up in person?

Andy,

I ordered them from Kevin over the phone and one of my friends that lives out that way picked them up for me. We'll have to pick out a time to get together. I don't get behind the "Orange Curtain" very often.

Sounds like a Sadam reference to me...
