kev313
Well I just reread the thread Artto and I'll say that when I said "new xrt" I guess it would have been more appropriate to say "my new source for independant music." Whatever problems you may have with the institution that is attached to the station (NOT THE SUBJECT OF MY POSTS) (the is, however, actually owned by WBEZ), I hope it will not cloud your judgement of the majority of its content (IS THE SUBJECT OF MY POSTS hint hint). If you don't want to turn the dial over when youre in the neighborhood, that's just fine too.

Audio Flynn
WOW You guys got pretty cranked up on this one. Still pretty tame compared to my anti evil remove Saddam rant before the war. When I was a pup in High School back in the mid 70s we had a great journalism teacher. The verbal debate in the class spawned great editorials. After all the opinions were hashed out we were still class mates and friends. If you do not respect someones intelligence they usually are not worth sparring with in the first place. Some things on the web just do not have that immediacy and direct vent to get to the need to respect each other and "agree to disagree". Dean G likes his digital; I kid him about sending him a TT. He hates pops and clicks. I say it is akin to hating the forest because of the fungus and thorns. We could beat each other senseless on analog against bytes of notes; I choose to respect him as a fine family man that I can glean from his posts, and that he uses Music through Klipsch speakers to enhance his life. I hope it is a good time to call it a truce. Rick
Audio Flynn
Getting closer to the trip. Wednesday June 25 is the day i can go out and listen to live music. Is there a clear picture on a good small club setting to experience?

WMcD
If you're coming to "our fair city" Chicago, please check out www.ravinina.com. They have Jazz in June. Ravinia Park is our version of Wolftrap orTanglewood. You can sit in the pavilion and buy food from the nice restaurants. But let me suggest the lawn admission at about $10. There is about 20 acres of lawn. The down side to this is that the sound comes from lawn located speakers. Fairly charming surroundings nonetheless. If you're at a downtown hotel and want to picnic you could: bring (borrow) a blanket; stop at the deli in the Presidental Towers Apartment complex (buy a sandwich, libation, and small candle set up); walk a block or so to Northwestern Station; take the "Ravinia Special" train to Ravinia. Picnic with the masses under the stars. Take the train back downtown. No worry about libation effects. Gil

Audio Flynn
I will be at the "Sutton Place" a couple blocks from the Drake near Rush Street. Anything good walking distance from there? I just like to walk; cannot do it in Detroit. Cab fare is not big deal of course. Be direct and narrow the options to 1-3 at most based on location. I really do not know any odf the bands. artto
Rick....what are the dates you will be in town? I have to pick up a copy of the Illinois Entertainer & Chicago Reader yet. I'll narrow down some of the best blues & jazz picks. In the meantime......here's a general list of the blues & jazz clubs. At Buddy Guys, Eddy Clearwater (Fri 27th) with Lurrie Bell opening. I've played at Eddie's north side club & I did a summer gig with Lurrie at Rosa's a few years ago. For those "in-the-know", Lurrie is probably the best guitar player in Chicago. Even Buddy Guy dubbed him "the next Jimi Hendrix" when he was in his teens. He has some mental problems. Consequently his performaces can be inconsistant. Son Seals is playing there Sat (28th) with Studebaker John opening. Studebaker is really hot on harp. http://www.buddyguys.com/ The Checkerboard Lounge is probaly the grand daddy of them all. Not too good of an area. Bring your gun. Rosa's has old timer Pinetop Perkins, one of the best blues pianists on the 27th. Lil' Ed & the Blues Imperials on the 28th. Lil Ed smokes! Brother Pooky thumpin' away on dee bass. Lil' Ed, Pinetop & Lurrie Bell were all featured performers at this year's Chicago Blues Fest. If you go here.....say hi to Tony (the owner)for me & tell him I (Art, the bass player) sent ya. Maybe you can save a few bucks. http://www.rosaslounge.com/ B.L.U.E.S. 2519 N.
