Update on my Klipschorn review

Khorn quest,

for $14,000 American I'll send my wife over to London or Paris with a new set of Khorns, the bill of lading, and she will personally escort the package to customs for your receipt. You will have to pay the customs processing and whatever duty is due, but it will get her the trip to Europe she wants.

I'll even throw in a bottle of bubbly for you. Are you a naturalized American citizen, a dependant, or related to one? This may make it easier to get access to a source via military exchange. Good luck!

Tom,

I now have a fisher X-100 11 watt/channel tube amp that would make those babies sing. It's sort of an extra right now and I'll bring it down on my next trip for you to try. I may bring my son back to Salisbury at the end of Christmas break. That would be a perfect time. Just me on the ride home and we could spend some time playing. I'll shoot you an email if that turns out to be the plan.

Glad all else is going well.

- Gary

Garymd: That would be very nice if you can do it, Gary. After all you folks on the forum have had to say about tubes and Klipschorns, I would really welcome the opportunity to give your tubes a listen.

One of my grown sons and his fiance are here for a visit. First time he saw and heard the Khorns. The Khorns "blew him away" on some CD's he brought, rock, bluegrass and such. He couldn't get over their sounding so clear, so clean, so loud and such impressive bass (without the subwoofer!). Nice.

Dee, we may have to email Trey Cannon or Bob Gassel to get that one straightened out. I'm pretty sure it's $1800 for the pair. It sure as hell better be, because it was a driving factor in me deciding to go with new ones. Mint used Klipschorns are between $2K and $3K, and by the time I added the cost for shipping and the upgrade package, I thought -- mind as well buy new ones.

Rick, it's worse than you can imagine. I'm driving to Terre Haute on Monday for the pickup, and I have NO gear at home to run them with. Frank Van Alstine won't have my preamp ready for three weeks, and I still haven't made a choice yet for the amplifier(s). The original plan was to use the lag to build the false corners, but I just don't have the energy right now.

Dean,

Yep, probably ought to check that out with Trey or Bob. It's a significant difference, indeed!

Travel safe on your mission to pick up the Khorns.

Sure am looking forward to your posting when you have a chance to hear them in place.
