kuisis1
I wondered if anyone has had this problem with their speaker. Sometimes when I'm playing music one of the speakers goes almost dead, not totally, just becomes very quiet. If I turn the balance to that speaker and turn it up slowly it pops back up to speed. It doesn't always happen, but it is annoying. Thanks Tom
J.4knee
Try swapping it to the other channel and see if it does the same thing.

IndyKlipschFan
Dirty nob/ connection inside... Is my guess especially if it crackles some.
kuisis1
It seems to be only the one speaker that does it, but the receiver is a vintage H/K 730 so I'll try to clean the knob. If that's not it does anybody have any other suggestions? Tom
WMcD
This has happened to me. I found it was a loose speaker wire connection. So check both ends, keep them clean and snug. It might also be a connection from the CD player, or whatever to the amp. Plug and unplug. Or a dirty source selection or speaker A-B switch. Cycle these a few times. I certainly don't mean to accuse you of not keeping a tight ship. But I though I was doing so too. Gil
Frzninvt
It is not the speaker it is the HK 730 that is at fault. If you swapped speaker leads I bet it would happen on the other speaker too. It sounds like a dirty relay in the amplifier that only kicks in when you give the volume knob a good jolt upwards to open the relay. It may jst need cleaning or it may need to have the solder reflowed to ensure a solid connection.
ricktate
Take that HK730 apart and clean all the controls per HDBR instructions,,,easy to do and i bet it will be like new.But it sounds more like the volume knob to me...anyway cleanning the controls is easy to do i got three HKs and did all of them,,,Rick
colterphoto1
Actually, I'm afraid that there is no fix. I'm collecting non-operational speakers, so I'll be right over to pick yours up. Sorry, bad luck, you'll have to go buy something else! LOL
kuisis1
Rick I think You might be right, is contact cleaner good to use
Klipschfoot
Check the TAPE MONITOR button/switch. That has been the fussiest control on every piece I have owned. A cleaning may help short term at least. The HK is worth service.
kuisis1
I hooked up my 233 and the speakers haven't missed a beat. I cleaned the 730 I'll check it out tomorrow. Thanks
D-MAN
Sounds like a connection problem. It never hurts to disconnect and reconnect ALL of the wiring, including the crossover all the way to the respective driver. Check the outputs at the amp, too.
