Marvel
There was a time when techs serviced Neumann U87 microphones, and replaced the tube in them whether they needed to be changed or not. Probably ended up in a landfill somewhere (or of the coast of New Jersey). Then you couldn't get tubes for them anymore. If someone would have just taken all the trash home with him he could have retired in style selling them back to the owners of those microphones. mike stehr
I've seen a heater to cathode short on a Mullard EZ-81, looks like a flashbulb discharge. Blasted a hole right in the cathode tube.

JJkizak
If I would have save all of the tubes I changed for intermodulation distortion problems (20 per month) 5751, 5814a, 12au7, 12at7, 12ax7, and a slug of them that I can't remember I would have been rich. A tube then had the same status as a ball point pen---if it didn't work throw it away---. JJK
