Allan Songer
Local boy Danny Grissett, an amazing young piano player who left for New York a while back will be here in town for a couple of weeks in January. He will be at the Hollywood Park Casino on January 11 with John Heard on bass and Lorca Hart on drums. This is a very cool venue with live jazz every Tuesday night. http://home.earthlink.net/~dangris/pics/danjon.jpg --Danny with John Heard and Lorca Hart I will absolutely be there, so if any of you want to come let me know and I'll buy you a cocktail! www.playhpc.com/entertainment_weekly.shtml http://home.earthlink.net/~dangris/ This kid can flat out PLAY! He was part of the John Heard trio here in LA for a couple of years--I must have heard him play at least 30 times and he's the real deal. J M O N
Thanks for the tip! This sounds like something you should tell the S. Cal Hornheads -- both of us...
nicholtl
During the jam sessions, is the casino still open for texas holdem and 7 card stud?

I don't play cards--the only casino game I'm any good at and understand is craps and you gotta go to Vega for craps!
nicholtl
I know, huh? Makes no sense. Indian casinos allow blackjack, paigow, 3 and 4 card poker, and slots. But no roulette, craps, or poker. Though poker clubs allow poker. And only Vegas allows the rest. Yet gambling is gambling. What the hell gives??
Allan Songer
It has been called to my attention by our resident Rhode Island arbiter of all that is clean and good in America that in the initial post here I used the term "local boy" when referring to Danny Grissett and that this is a redneck, racist term. I was using the phrase as in "local boy makes good" since Danny is ON HIS WAY to the top of the jazz world. If I offended any of you with that phrase I apologize, but in the context of the post I wouldn't think that anyone would read any racist connotations. Sorry. Piranha
Thanks for the apology. That was pretty offensive. See you in Inglewood.
Cal Blacksmith
I just checked out the time slot and it is a no-go for me. The set ends at 11pm add 1 1/2 hours for me to get home and it is 12:30 by the time I am in bed then up at 3:00 for work, that is just not enough sleep. Could you sneek in a tape recorder and bootleg a copy for me JUST KIDDING!! Enjoy yourself, it should be a good night!
Allan Songer
Music starts at about 7:30-7:45. I have a meeting in Santa Monica at 6:30 that should last about an hour or so. I should be there by 8:00.
3dzapper
Yes, I took issue that Mr Songer called a successful African American artist a "boy". I PM'd him to suggest that he revise the lead in least he offend somebody. And in my usual way made a joke. I asked him "Are you a closet redneck " Rick
