r.cherry
JBL LX44 i pulled the grills off for a look and found the foam? band that goes from the edge of the speaker to the cabinet is disintigrating on both of my bass speakers. they do not seam to sound much different, perhaps even better, not as stiff, does this just seal the cabinet so the air comes out the hole they provide in the back. should this be fixed? the cones seem fine. i will be giving these to my son to take to college in the fall. Frzninvt
Your woofers need to be refoamed. Using them in their current state could lead to voice coil damage and then you will need to pay for a full recone job. This is a common occurrence with older JBL and Cerwin Vega speakers the foam surrounds on the woofers disentigrates and falls apart.

Mighty Favog
Our JBL L300's need to be refoamed every 10 years or so.
