colterphoto1
New thread, someone brought up the phrase I think, therefore I am. Which reminded me of an old Moody Blues lyric: (voice of man) I think therefore I am, I think. (computer voice) Of course you are my bright little star.. I've miles and miles of files pretty files of your forefathers fruit, and now to suit our great computer you're magnetic ink (man's voice) I'm more than that I know I am at least I think I must be (hipster beatnick voice) There you go man, keep as cool as you can face piles of trials with smiles it riles them to believe that you percieve the web they weave and keep on thinking free... SO HERE'S THE GAME- quote your favorite rock beatnick poetry from memory the best you can. No fair going back to the album cover or listening to CD. Just memory, if it was that important to you , you should be able to get 80% at least. Have fun with it... Michael
wheelman
Well Michael I cheated a little. I've been listening to this today. The Doors "When the musics over" heres part of it it's do darn long it's one of my favorite tunes by them. Cancel my subscription to the resurection Send my credentials to the house of detention I got some friends inside' The face in the mirror won't stop.... The girl in the window won't drop..... A feast of friends, alive!, she cryed Waitin for me outside! Before I sink into the big sleep I want to hear, I want to hear The scream of the butterfly Comeback, baby, back into my arms Were getttin tired of hangin around Waitin around with our heads to the ground I hear a very gentle sound, very near yet very far Very soft, yeah, very clear, come today, come today what have they done to the earth? what have they done to our fair sister? Ravaged and plundered and ripped her and bit her Stuck her with knives in the side of the dawn And tied her with fences and dragged her down I hear a very gentle sound' with your ear down to the ground We want the world and we want it now....... Now, Now?, Now! Persian night, babe, see the light, babe Save us! Jesus! Save us! So when the musics over when the musics over, yeah when the musics over Turn out the light.....x3 Well the music is your special friend Dance on fire as it intends Untill the end Untill the end Untill the end I cheated I had to listen to it but it's great. garymd
Another Moody Blues (the best I remember): Late Lament: Breathe deep the gathering gloom Watch lights fade from every room Bed(something) people look back and lament Another day's useless and energy's spent Impassioned lovers wrestle as one Lonely man cries for love and has none New mother picks up and settles her son Senior citizens wish they were young Cold-hearted orb that rules the night Removes the colors from our sight Red is grey and yellow white But we decide which is right And which is an illusion (gong)

colterphoto1
Very well done. Gary if that is from memory you're very good at it. Those Moody lyrics do have a way of sticking with you. How many times have you played that song? Does anyone out there remember 'music memory' contests in grade school. The music teacher would try to get us to be knowledgeable about classical music, so would play little snippits until we could recongnize Beethoven from Tchaikowsky (sp?). I ALWAYS won at those. No one in my area will play rock and roll trivia with me either... Michael any more???

wangdang
Get your motor running Head out on the highway Looking for adventure In whatever comes my way. Yea darling gonna make it happen Catch the world in a love embrace Fire all of your guns at once and Explode into space Born to be wild. Born to be wild. (Steppenwolf -- mid to late 60s. There's nothing like a bunch of my fellow flabby middle-agers dancing to this at their 35th high school reunion!)
Moderators Amy Posted May 11, 2005 Moderators Share Posted May 11, 2005 Elvis: I wonder if youre lonesome tonight You know someone said that the worlds a stage And each must play a part. Fate had me playing in love you as my sweet heart. Act one was when we met. I loved you at first glance You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue Then came act two. You seemed to change and you acted strange And why Ill never know. Honey, you lied when you said you loved me And I had no cause to doubt you. But Id rather go on hearing your lies Than go on living without you. Now the stage is bare and Im standing there With emptiness all around And if you wont come back to me Then make them bring the curtain down. Joe Shmoe
I don't know about poetry but this is a song I like that has some meaning for me.. maybe someone can guess who it is..? shouldn't be too tough. You called me up on the phone today struggling with the right words to say. Time can change a thing or two. Time has changed the lives of me and you, but you know... it could have been different dad. The word brings back a sweet memory. I¹m sitting on a bluff on a broken tree, by my side a distinguished man giving me encouragement, telling me I can, and you know ... you¹re not there. You say, Son, let's forget the past, I want another chance, gonna make it last. You're begging me for a brand new start, trying to mend a bridge that's been blown apart, but you know... you never built it dad. So I sit here through the night, and I write myself to sleep, and time keeps ticking... Time has made you finally realize your loneliness and your guilt inside. You're reaching for something you never had, turning around now you're loocking back, and you know... I'm no there. You say, son, let's forget the past. I want another chance, gonna make it last. You're begging me for a brand new start, trying to mend a bridge that's been blown apart, but you know ... you never built it dad.
fletcherkane
My fave guitarist Phil Keaggy. Here's the lyric from one of my favorite songs of his: Strong Tower: Wrong thoughts and emotions Have blinded the eyes of faith Misguided devotion kept a pilgrim In dire straits Where does one go Where do you turn The guilt and fear Depression lurks Just beyond your back door Waiting for your Decision To live and learn Deep in the valley Caught a glimpse of the morning star If we could just reach you Get to know who you really are Where does one go Where do you turn There's a place A fortress high And an open door Waiting for your Reception When you arrive The Name of the Lord Run now Is a strong tower Where you'll be safe
fletcherkane
Here's another...this ones from Rich Mullins Here is my heart take what you want 'Cause I have no use for it anyway Well of all the stupid things I've ever said This could be the worst may be the best But those are the breaks These are the bruises And if I can't give myself away I'm the only one who loses And I don't want to lose this It is the sea that makes the sailor And the land that shapes the sea And I do not know yet what I am made of Or all I may someday be And it is the wood that makes a carpenter It's the very tools of his trade And it is love that makes a lover And a cross that makes a saint Here is my song, listen if you will But I have no heart for it anymore I just have half a mind to cut it loose And if it sails off into the blue Then I'll just let it soar And the sky is better keeping And I won't be any poorer For giving it its freedom And here's one for freedom It is the sea that makes the sailor And the land that shapes the sea And I do not know yet what I am made of Or all I may someday be It is the wood that makes a carpenter It's the very tools of his trade And it is love that makes a lover And a cross that makes a saint Well, of all the stupid things I've ever said This could be the worst may be the best But those are the breaks
SteelerFan
Here goes a couple of them from Pearl Jam that really speak to me: "I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody elses sky but why why can't it be mine" and: "She once believed in every story he had to tell one day she stiffened took the other side empty stares from each corner of a shared prison cell one just escapes one's left inside the well" Think I'm pretty close to the actual words. I could quote a bunch from The Boss, but I won't bother. I just wish I had the talent to express myself like that.
