Ease My Pain

thebes

Recommended Posts

I'm fractured, frazzled, fried and fatigued by the unlenting heat traveling with a major dose of sweaty BO producing humidty. Three weeks straight climbing up and down 32 and 40 foot ladders. There may be four sides to a house, but every shady side I drag my paint bucket up to turns into a blazing inferno ten minutes later. My brains turned to mush and my feet hurt, hell the hair(s)(liar, what this plural stuff) on my head is sore.

The Twins are away, so no body massages to ease my weary bones (they know how hard I work to keep them in DOM and the hot dance clubs).

I'd eat dinner, but it seems like too much effort.

Need some tunes to ease my way, chill my soul, dekink my muscle(s)(liar there you go again).

Poor Thebes, poor poor Thebes.....

Thanks for the story Thebes! I needed that! Painting my own house is on my list of things that I will never do agian. Like putting on a new roof, hauling hay, going on a hiking vacation, anything that takes more than a few minutes in the attic and pouring concrete of any kind. All my little "money saving" projects turned out well, but at what cost? Hang in there, find a hot tub and relax!9.gif

Thanks Mssr Thebes! You just reminded me why I bought a stone ranch home this time. No painting, save the soffits and garage door. Heck, this place is wheelchair accessible for when I age badly and start stumbling around like Ozzie!

As always sage advice from djk however. The plank/jacks thing saves tons of laddering. Why August to paint? It's only the hottest month of the year in most places.

oh, the song- Sly and the Family Stone 'Hot Fun in the Summertime'

I paid $4000 extra 10 years ago to the builder of my home to have every nook and cranny on the exterior of my home bricked, save the vinyl soffitt. I do have an exterior door or two that could use painting. Would you mind coming down and helping me paint those when you're finished Thebes?

Hey, how about that Wagner Power Painter I've seen on the tube Thebes? That guy paints the whole neighborhood in about 3 seconds.

Or try this when gumption wanes... pound your right fist on the podium and say 'we will accomplish our mission'.

Hope this helps.

Last night after finishing up a 50 mile bicycle ride (a 97 degree day - drink LOTS of water!) I took a shower with Dr. Bronner's pure peppermint castille soap (DILUTE! DILUTE!), sank into my listening chair (the purring cat was soon there too), and put on Ella Fitzgerald/Joe Pass "Take Love Easy".

Her voice was a cool breeze weaving a lazy trail through the verdant country hollows.

It was most satisfying.

Why not wait till the twins come home.. Make em wear bikinis...and offer to apply lotion on their hot bodies all over too. Afterall, you not want to miss any spots.... And offer to spray water on them when they are hot? I can see it now, you in a lawn chair.. looking up at them with a ice cold beer in your hand.... As their bodies stretch doing your work for you too!

Thanks for checking in guys, sorry I'm so late in responding. After posting this last night, I chilled with some Santana and immediately collapsed into bed.

Went out into the oven works again this morning, but something good happened. I had previously do9ne some work two houses down from where I was today. The ower drives by, stops, and says "Hey, I seem to recall you're into music. I'm finishing off my basement and a couple of days ago I tossed two boxes of my ex-wife's lps into the construction dumpster." Off I go for a little dumpster diving. Not to bad, a lot of girl type stuff like John Denver and lots of country, not much interest here, but also some gems:

Live Cream

Tull, Living in the Past

Dylan, Nashville Skyline

Henrix, Electric Ladyland

At least six Richie Havens lps

Stones, Sticky Fingers with the zipper still attached and working

Buffalo Springfield Again

Santana's Greatest Hits

Moody Blues, Days of Future Passed and Every Good Boy Deserves Favor

Two copies of The Beatles Abbey Road, one lp in regular black and the other in transparant purple (wonder what that's all about)

Now Indy I have tried using The Twins on the job once. Usually when I'm on the job the neighborhood housewives will stop by for a little harmless flirting. But the day The Twins were on the job, none of the husbands would go to work, and being guys they just hung around giving me bad painting advice all day.

Now Keith wants me to leave the warmer climes of old virginny to head down to Alabama to paint two doors. Let's do the math: 2 doors by $40 and hour, plus gas, taxes, tags, usage, mileage, beer, huntin dog, fireworks, a case of moonshine, sub-prime plus one, divided by the overnight rates on 30 year Treasuries, plus the gotcha hyperbole and it should comes out to be around $3,647.22. Sure I'll do it!

Despite my little find I'm still whipped (hope The Twins come home soon), so I still need some tunes to chill out with tonight. Got some Los Lonely Guys on now......

You asked for ideas for music to relax to - well I am about half your age so anything I might mention here might be a bit young for you but here goes.

Commonly available stuff:

Delerium: Karma - I have seen this album recommended serveral times on this forum, and for good reason. This is an excellent cd to unwind to. My favorite track is #6 - Lamentation. The albums Semantic Spaces and Poem are decent.

Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance - I've seen these two recommended before as well - Both well know artists, both with a huge discography and relaxing to listen two.

Less common stuff:

I've been a fan for years, but lately one of my favorite artists to pop in the cd player after a hard days work sweating it out in the warehouse is Ataraxia. It's an Itallian group, some of the songs have some very beautiful acoustic guitar work. Francesca Nicoli's vocals can be a bit eccentric at times, but it is worth it to hear Vittorio's guitar playing.

Some Ataraxia samples:

http://nicolar.free.fr/clytaeme.mp3

http://nicolar.free.fr/mnemosin.mp3

http://nicolar.free.fr/aperlae.mp3

If you go to the discography section of their site you can listen to a lot of mp3 samples from their albums. Vittorio's solo cd is also good but also has Francesca on vocals.

Stoa is another good group to relax to.

Samples:

http://www.stoa.de/mp3/Partus-part.mp3

http://www.stoa.de/mp3/Maare-part.mp3

more samples available on their website

Dwelling - both cd's available are good, samples on weblink:

Anima In Fiamme - Sub Occasum Solis - samples on weblink:

http://www.equilibriummusic.com/dtltitle.php3?AlbumID=013

Black Tape For A Blue Girl - This Lush Garden Within, I find this cd relaxing as well.

If anyone is interested in any of the less common recommendations and lives in the U.S. they can be ordered from http://www.projekt.com/ or http://www2.mailordercentral.com/isotank/

I have ordered from both sites in the past with good results.

Thebes my man - take any of the new found Richie Havens (he is so cool I am sure osmosis will take over), pour a glass of Santa Margharita Pinot Grigio, add a couple of ice cubes, add a slice of orange, put on some shorts (clean), a tank top T shirt (also clean), sit in the most comfortable chair, lean your head back and close your eyes til they are just tiny, narrow slits.

Imagine a cool evening outside at the foot of the stage - you see Richie sitting in the center of the stage on a bar stool holding his guitar and putting his face close to the microphone at the end of a black stand. His clear, strong voice starts to slowly transfer its energy to you - your heart pumps in cosmic rythym with the beat and before long that energy is coursing through your veins. As you stand the wind stirs and starts blowing your hair (remember - we are still using our imagination). You face directly in the breeze letting the first cool nip of autumn clear your head and refresh your soul.

As you glance to the left you are suddenly awash with desire as for the very first time (again) you see two gorgeous twins headed toward you and their intent is clear. It is the first time all over again........

sweet dreams.

Ah Henry you are a sage, sage man, spent the night with Mr. Havens and a lot of sleep and mellow music over the weekend and am fully restored.

Daedrin, Thanks so much for your suggestions. Atraxia especially sounds like something I will be checking out. By the way, we run a music thread every week down in DVD's Entertainment and besides us old guys a lot of young whippersnappers stop by.
