Put your hands together for Sunburn Willie, this month's winner of a

brand new Klipsch t-shirt. Congrats Willie! PM or email me

with your shipping info.

Just got back from the holiday so I'm late again, but there's still plenty of week left to share some music.

The format's simple, name of artist/group, name of album, type of music

(cd/lp etc.), and genre, rock classical, jazz etc. as best you can.

As usual I'll start it off with:

Jefferson Starship, "Red Octopus, lp, rock

As you can tell I've been put forht a lot of 60's rock lately.

That's been because I've been working my way through a stack of

recently acquired rock lps from that era, and pulling out a few gems

along the way to share.

Great stuff, vocals by Gracie Slick, a true sound of the era, nice

vocals and harmonies, a tight band with wailing guitars and a country

sensibility. Won't shatter your ears, it's not slam rock, but

it's still pretty damn good stuff.

So what do you have to share this week?

Dude it's harder to win this t-shirt contest than the New York state lottery!

The pretty things- S.F. Sorrow Cd the original concept album that spawned the Who's tommy. [:o]

While were on Porcupine Tree buy the DTS surround dvd of "in Absentia". The visuals may be to disturbing for some. Awesome surround let alone the music! I honestly didn't like this one as much, but it's really growing on me. BIGTIME! There are even a few videos to check out. DTS music dvd's are phenominal. They work on a regular dvd player too.

Great recommendation! There was a long thread on Porcupine Tree on the old forum, started by Scooterdog, where we were all saying how awesome they were. And yes, they are pretty much considered prog. rock, although I've seen them reviewed on some sites devoted to Metal.

yes, I've seen them reviewed on metal forums but I disagree with that. They are much more talented than your average heavy metal band, like AC/DC for instance. How these guys have survived, so to speak, for so long is beyond me.

PT can PLAY. Each cd seems to get better. Try Blackfield if you like PT. The lead singers side project.

Lazurus off Deadwing can bring me to tears.

For those who missed it Chris Isaak was on PBS Soundstage last week and I must say the performance was awesome.

I would have recommended the PBS Soundstage performance but you really

can't buy it yet and I don't see any air dates coming up. Still if you

see it in your local PBS listings give it a watch. I did record it and

it is one of the perfomances that makes me glad I have an HDTV setup.

Chris Isaak on stage in 720P looks very good! . Chris Isaak still has

the power in his voice and made the PBS special a must see performace.

After seeing the Chris Isaak PBS performace how could I pick anything

else for this week other than a Chris Isaak with "Wicked Game" on it!

Oh man I totally agree with the above. I saw these guys last June and

they were just awesome. I am flying to SF on Oct 21 to see them again.

I have the DVD Audio disc of both In Absentia and Deadwing. Both are

just awesome so go out and buy them.

Welcome TRon&T---

Great to see a Gabriel Genesis fan!

Which brings me to my recommendation-- I bought the Archive box of Genesis 1967 to 1974 a few years ago and still listen to it alot. An entire 2 CDs worth of "Lamb" live and 2 more of great quaint early stuff and rocking live versions of "Supper's Ready" and others--

Probably even have had it in the recommendations thread before-- its just great melodic, prog rock ---long before "Sussudio"---

Mr. Collins "popped" a great prog. group. Most have never heard "Suppers Ready", a great tune. The Archive box set is fantastic.

Scooterdog, have you hard Lightbulb Sun by PT? If not GO GET, IT!!

Sure wish they'd get close to DFW, I'd be there.

We're A Happy Family - A Tribute To The Ramones CD , " Just checked this sucker out from the local library ! " Red Hot Chili Peppers , Rob Zombie , Eddie Vedder , Metallica , U2 , Kiss , Marlyn Manson , Garbage , Green Day , The Pretenders , Rancid , Pete Yorn , The Offspring , Rooney , Tom Waits - Very Cool . I'm not usually a fan of the tribute CD's , but when I picked this thing up and saw the diversity of the bands , I was currious . It's a Keeper ! I'm a huge Ramones fan and I think that most of you that feel likewise will dig it ! PS - I was going to do a list with all the tracks and artists but I couldn't get it to work . I'm somewhat of a computer cave man . Guess I should have taken some computer classes in school , uh , actualy we didn't have computer classes when I was in school . SC wouldn't ya know . [;)] Thanx Thebes ! This just goes to show ya , Anybody Can Win !

I know you didn't ask me but.... First let me say I like Dream Theater..a lot, but they're no PT. I like most of the groups you mention but they're, IMHO, a bit harder than PT and they're missing something that frankly most other bands are too. I can't put my finger on it, but its there. Early Genesis and Marillion had it.

Speaking of Dream Theater, do you have the official bootleg series? The live covers of Iron Maiden really rock.

Scooter, thanks for the link. MADE my morning. I'm just getting into concert videos. Now I have to go buy a few. Darn the luck[;)]

I also like like DT alot, enough to go see them twice. But I prefer PT

much more. Steve Wilson has a much better voice then La Brea and he

play with much more emotion then Pettrucci. Pettrucci is one of the

best Technical guitarist I have heard but does not stir the emotion

like Steve Wilson does. In fact the only other guitarist that

creates that same emotion for me is David Gilmour of PF.

On a different note if you like Prog and you lean a little more to the

prog metal then you should give Riverside a listen.

These guys are just awesome and hale out of Poland.

Another great band is Evergrey http://www.evergrey.net/

Check these two out.
