thebes
What a great time of the year, 3 games left and it's down to the Yankees, the Red Socks and the Indians. If you can hear the crack of the bat, the "swoosh" as a red-hot pitcher unloads, the "ommph" of a fielder hitting the dirt as he grabs for a liner, you are with me tonight. I'm not going to apologize, I'm not going to gloat, I'm not going to dissemble, we here at the Thebes household are unabashed Yankees fans. I've got my cap on, and The Twins are in complete pinstripe uniforms. They are frowning at me a little because it appears I left the uniforms in the dryer a little too long (heh, heh) and they have shrunk quite a bit. We got Double Bubble, we got sunflower seeds, we got a plug of chaw, hotdogs steaming in beer in the kitchen, Cracker Jacks in the cupbaord and incongrously, fine wine sloshing over our goblets aswe cheer our team along (hey we are at home we can drink what we want). Better yet, we got surround sound via my trusty Denon 2803 SS (tubes and bball don't mix ) playing through the Cornies with a variety of KG's filling in the other positions. You guessed it only one thing lacking: Tunes! I want to step outside the batters box a little, I'm sick of the standards (take me out to the ballgame, put me in coach etc.) I want to stretch a little sorta like the 7th inning. So help me out guys, oh man, the Yankees just scored !!! The Twins are shaking their pompoms and I'm jumping up and down on the couch. I'[ll start it out with what could have been the Yankees anthem for last year, but hopefully will be the Rd Socks funeral march this year. By Del Shannon: As I walk along I wonder What went wrong with our love A love so rare and strong And as I walk along, I think of The times we had together While our hearts were young I'm a walkin' in the rain Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain Wishin' you were here by me To end this misery and I wonder I wa wa wa wonder Why, why why why why why she ran away And I wonder where she will stay My little runaway, a run run run run runaway I'm a walkin' in the rain Tears are fallin' and I feel the pain Wishin' you were here by me To end this misery and I wonder I wa wa wa wonder Why, why why why why why she ran away And I wonder where she will stay My little runaway, a run run run run runaway A run run run run runaway A run run run run runaway Oh by the way, the first person to suggest "We are the Champions" gets taken out and shot. Let's go, commercials over and they are taking the field.
nicholtl
I love your prose, Thebes. Ever consider becoming a short-story novelist?

JCturboT
Thebes, Hopefully, your Evil Empire Yankees will go down (just like last year) to the Sox. It's looking good for the Sox in game one, they are up 5-1 in the top of the 7th. It will be hard to top last years ALCS though. Jeff
sputnik
Dire Straits - "The Sultans of Swing" ("Money For Nothing" would be a good one for the Colorado Rockies)
thebes
Nick you are way to kind, given what you do for a living (psst he's a writer folks).3/4 paragraphs and I'm out of verbs, not a good thing for a wannabe writer. Sultans of Swing! Now we are talking. Excellent Mssr. Sputnick. Lett's mix our baseball methaphors, I'm thinking something like Dyaln"s "Blood on the Track" Here's some songs from that cd that fit well with a season ending baseball series: Tangled Up in Blue You're gonna Make Me Lonesome When You go" (for Boston fans) Shelter From the Storrn Buckets of Rain Woah, Jeter's up, ohmygod t The Twins just lifted their jerseys and flashed him! Ii'm suspicous because he looked into the screen and winked), gotta go ask some circumspect questions. Keep'em coming.

Here's an excerpt from Big Balls by AC/DC: ..."Some balls are held for charity And some for fancy dress But when they're held for pleasure They're the balls that I like best My balls are always bouncing To the left and to the right It's my belief that my big balls Should be held every night"...
