Hmm. A lot of audiophiles suggest isolation blocks to keep jitter

and whatnot to a minimum. I've never thought that'd do a whole

lot (especially as I'm not a very critical listener), but something of

that sort might suit you well. Maybe some small blocks of soft

wood (like pine or some-such) or some rubber feet. I have some of

those rubber cushions you're supposed to put on the inside of a door or

a drawer so that it doesn't bang up against the door jam or

dresser/chest/etc. That might do ok.

Cut two tennis balls in half and place them under your CD player with

the fat side down. This should offer you some pretty good isolation.

They of course can be painted black or whatever color to make it less

obtrusive (you might also consider soaking them in water and peeling

away at the fuzzies to give it a smoother look).

Btw, where is your cd player located in relation to the speakers?

If this mod doesn't work you can take it a step further and put a

concrete tile on the tennis balls and then put the cd player on top.

The extra mass helps resist vibrations. You can get a very nice looking

black marble slab for like $20 at your local hardware or tile/flooring

stores.

I am curious as to how your turntable isn't feeding back or vibrating yet your cd player is...

Btw, how do you know you're listening at 85dB? That's really quiet and

I have a hard time it's making a cd player skip. (perhaps check the

batteries in your SPL meter?)

Run over to Wal-Mart and pick up a can of tennis balls. Take a good

serrated kitchen knife, and cut two of the balls in half. The four

pieces can be used as kind of a "poor man's Vibrapod" to see if

additional isolation between the shelf and the CD player will cure your

problem.

I bet the tennis balls would prove to be a good solution.

Now, you've got me curious. *ahem* Do you really have a TT? And if so, and if you dislike CDs so much, why are you using them to listen to your new amp instead of LPs?

Hope you can get your vibration problem solved. One solution may be to turn it down...[:P]

hey, nothing wrong with CD players! Try visiting a studio someday and

tell me analog is handsdown more representative of the real source [;)]

oh, but don't you know it's common practice to bash anything digital? everyone else does, so may as well join the crusade.

i also find much irony in the fact that most of the people saying digital is crap are self admittedly using crappy forms of digital sources themselves.

Just because it seems to be the bandwagon to jump on these days doesn't

mean everyone who's against digital is on that bandwagon. Everyone

has a right to their own opinions.

ah, yes, but sometimes people forget crappy analog can sound just as bad, if not worse, than crappy digital. calling digital "crap" is not proper opinion... it's mere ignorance.

Perhaps a blanket statement calling all digital 'crap' would be

ignorance. And you're right, digital and analog can be bad, and I

also believe they both can be very good.

It is quite difficult to debate such matters as this because it is all

personal opinion. It's mere preference. It's all

subjective. About all we can do is state what we think and why we

think so. Anything beyond that is fruitless.

Jacksonbart -- James lied about his age because he felt that if everyone knew he was really just 15 he would be ignored and not taken seriously. He's embarrassed about it, and I don't see much point in beating him to death with it. Hey, you've got people around here using sockpuppets and involved in a much higher level of deception, and even though we know they're not "real", no one gives them any grief at all. James was very polite and respectful to me on the phone, and I'd just like everyone to remember what they were like when they were 15.
