Pretty Tom, what round over bit is that? 3/8" ?

Who did the paint? Is that black piano lacquer? Coats? Clear top?

Consider spritzing those woofers- I painted some badly faded ones for my walnut decorators and it looks stunning, like you're looking into a black hole. Used SEM automotive vinyl roof paint. Light, tough, flexible. Can't tell that it affected sound at all. If anything, it toughened up the cone material a bit.

This shows the false wall I built over the large window that's on that wall. The blue tape represents the outside dimensions of the Carada screen we're considering. Once the screen brakets go on, I'll cover the plywood with black carpet. Also, I'll be making a Cornice board that will mount to the ceiling on that wall which will be what the drapes are hung from. My vision is to have swag style drapes at the top and standard hanging drapes to the side that will be pulled back with tie-backs. We'll see........

Hey Michael -

You're right - them cones look BAD! [:$] In person they don't look too bad, but in the photos....ho boy!

I used a 1/2" round over bit. I wasn't sure how much of a "rounded" look I wanted, but I didn't want anything too dramatic. I tried 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", and 3/4" bits on a 3/4" plywood test corner I built. The 1/2" was to my liking. YMMV. [:)]

The paint....a friend of mine shot these (since I'm a cheap bastard and didn't want to invest in srpay paint equipment. Well....the real truth is he does automotive paint work and I don't). What we ended up with was (and I'm sure Michael Hurd will roll his eyes at this)thinning down 1 quart of Rustoleum 7777 enough that it would flow out of his Binks gun. Additionally, we added to this concoction 1/2 pint of the Rustoleum sister to 7777 but in gloss (I think it's 7778 but don't hold me to that). The gloss was needed to restore some of the sheen that seemed to have been lossed by thinning down the paint. This idea was my friend's. Hell, I would've never thought of doing that.

Actually, the biggest PITA was grain lifting. After the first coat, it naturally lifted. No problem - sanded it down. Second coat, it lifted again. So we sanded again. Third coat, more lifting, but not bad. Sanded using 400 grit. Fourth coat......sweeeet. [:)]

This is what you're looking for. Paint type courtesy of Michael Hurd 'Mr. Paint'.

It's SEM #15243 Satin Black, available at your automotive paint specialist.

This stuff is so tough and flexible that some overspray on masking tape or brown paper can be crumpled up and wont flake peel or chip. I couldn't even scratch it with a fingernail. Tough stuff!

I did my woofers and cutout edges with it. I'm sure your edges are in lacquer, but you might consider taking those cones out and give em a couple of spritz's.

Your HT is coming out great looks like you just need to get some equipment in there? Well... and finish the screen wall.

I remember your heresy thread... are you using them for mains as well? Or did you have something else lined up?

Rob

The Heresy's are pulling surround & center duty. Mains are vertical Cornwalls.

Equipment? You want equipment?? Why.....just yesterday the brown truck dropped off a Parasound Halo A23 and A52. Oh yeah..... [:)]

But wait....Tom has taken all the other equipment and out his rack in order to reconfigure the rack. Sadly, the Cornwalls will have to wait to be fed by the Halo's until Tom is done. [:(]

Tom: Your refinishing of your Heresies is amazing. I've never seen any quite like those. Very unique and beautiful. Nice work!

Your HT is looking beautiful. You must be getting very excited to finish things up in there? What size screen is going in there?

Thanks picky! [:)] Yeah, we're starting to get a bit stoked since we're down to the last few tasks. Unfortunately................

As I have stated before, this HT project tends to take on a life of its own. To wit: We get the new power amps in. Now, it should be a simple matter to hook the inputs and speaker cables to them since they're already connected to the pre/pro right? WRONG! Wife walks in and sees everything out of the rack including the wiring. She looks at me.....looks at the all the equipment, shakes her head and says, "Don't tell me, let me guess. You've come up with another "cool idea" haven't ya? Sheesh.....this room will never be done." And walks out. [:(]

LOL.....thank ged she understands. Anyhow....my goal is to have the room done by Christmas. As for the screen, I think we've settled on a 96" Carada Criterion series in 1.78:1.

[:o] Two months for the last couple of tasks?!... Don't worry, i

know how it goes... [;)] and it'll be that much closer to

perfection. I just started and I'm aiming Easter to be at the

stage you're at...

How far back you gonna be sitting from the 96"? Any rules of thumb i should be looking at?
