mrblorry
Hello! I've been away for a few years, but now I'm back. It had been so long since my last post, my account had been deleted, so I guess my post count is gone too. Oh well. Have you guys seen this sick mod? I own a pair of KLF-30s and a C-7, and now I want one of these!!
colterphoto1
I have the RC7 with my RB5 setup and KLF-C7 with my Cornwalls. That guy is onto something. I think maybe it's done before, but he's really taken care with the mods. I wonder how much they will sell for. Might be a good cottage industry, turning out Heritage-compatible center speakers. It would be a good match to a lot Of Klipsch product. Michael

SCOOTERDOG
I wonder what I could sell mine for?
mrblorry
Looks darn close! His is cool because it uses an original KLF box, but one has to kill a perfectly good speaker to make one. I doubt if too many empty boxes are available from Klipsch! Yours is the best idea since all that is needed are the internal parts. Nice job! mbajner
that center speaker was on e-bay before probably no one met the reserve price so not sure what the seller really wants for it someone is bidding $500 but that is below reserve

Nope, he says he made the box, and used a cherry veneer on it. Very nice job though.
mrblorry
Whoops! Guess it pays to read all the words.
Marvel
btw, welcome back. It doesn't really seem like it has been that long since you were here. They probably lost you when they did the forum software upgrade. Bruce
mrblorry
Isn't it interesting...there's only one bid, and it reached the reserve by a brand new ebayer with no feedback! How nice. I would suspect a shill bid except I doubt that one would exceed the reserve. If it's genuine, the owner must be nervous.
mrblorry
Thanks Bruce! It's good to be back. I seem to drift between my hobbies in a circular fashion, always coming back around eventually. My guitar addiction always has me in its claws, and lately I've been tinkering with an old Ford F-150 I bought off ebay. I fiddle with the stereo each and every day, so it's never very far from my mind. Sorry if I drifted off topic. []
Tom Mobley
I've wondered a couple times why somebody doesn't do a quality knock-off of the Acadamy. Those things are a hot item on the bay and have been for a long time now. What is so special about them? I don't even know what they are or what they're derived from. What Klipsch speaker family are they part of?

I wouldn't call it so much killing a perfectly good speaker, so much as crafting an even better one... depending on how his auction goes, I may just have to see what I can do with a pair of donors... formica
What is so special about them? I don't even know what they are or what they're derived from. What Klipsch speaker family are they part of? Hey Tom... Even without having heard an Academy, I think they are "overrated"... simply based on the going prices versus what is in the box. Technically they are "heritage" speakers which are part of the II family like the Chorus II, Forte II, Quartet, etc... Very few were made and they are the only centre channel Klipsch lists for the Heritage speakers... therefore the interest in the illusive perfect match. Perhaps if the Belle were listed, it would still be in production? [] ROb PS: I actually did hear one are frzinvt's place... still overrated
jerohm
...Even without having heard an Academy, I think they are "overrated"... Well I HAVE heard it ... several actually... and their elusive legendary status is grossly exaggerated (or their (over-)price trying to be rationalized)... PERIOD. The best I can say, is that they are shielded, have a nice form factor... and sound good. There is one and only one ideal center, and that is an identical (driver) match to the mains. Even then, positioning can affect the total satisfaction/presentation. Now I am sure that I will be accused of "Academy envy" (sheesh [:^)] )
