I have listened to them for about 25 - 30 hours so far and after about 4 hours of break-in they started to sound really nice. The RF-82's don't quite have the slam in the bass region or the clarity in the high freq. as the RF-7's but the mid-range is better.
Buckeye_Nut
I've had my RF-82's serving front duty for a little over a month now, and I couldnt be more happy. I have a system that is strictly HT, and for my purposes, it's been happy days in "nuts" house. LOL BTW...tonight is a dedicated movie night!!! Wooooooooo!!!! Ever notice that beer tastes better on friday afternoon?
rlr267
I've had my RF-82's serving front duty for a little over a month now, and I couldnt be more happy. I have a system that is strictly HT, and for my purposes, it's been happy days in "nuts" house. I'm with you there Buckeye. I have had my RF-82s just over a month too and love them. My use is 99% music and they are working from sun-up until late evening every day. I have only gotten to use them for two movies (we have a newborn, so movies are on temporary hiatus while classical, blues, and jazz music fills the void). I did like them for those two movies though and love them for music. IMHO, the Klipsch RF-82 is beyond a doubt, the best bang for the buck on the market. I looked at speakers that cost half what I paid for my RF-82's and speakers that cost 5 times the RF-82 list price. Nothing I looked at in the same price range sounded near as good, and those that cost substantially more, only sounded nominally better to me. Plus, they the highest WAF. (I felt like I was shopping with Goldie Locks, my wife said the RF-63's were "too skinny" and the RF-83's are "too tall" another brand was "too fat" , the Gallo was "too everything" whatever that means, and Blose "cost too much to be that small" . . . . ) Which is lucky for me, since I wanted the RF-82s and I wanted Goldie Locks to be happy. WolfsBane
I finally demoed the RF-82 and RF-83 systems today. Also demoed the RF-52 system, but I'm not really serious about them.... They did not have the RF-62 system set up. The systems where set up well enough for a demo, but they were not customized to the room yet... (not that it matters because they will sound different in your home). Saw a few sample movie clips and a few music DVD clips, (Eagles Hell Freezes Over being one of them, which provides a pretty good reference source for music). The RF-83 system is darn impressive. Filled the mini theatre size room with excellent sound effortlessly. It was open and presented excellent imaging. Great dynamic range. The RF-82 system also conveyed all of the above in the room that it was set up. The RC-64 is darn big!... You need some space to set that baby up... With controller in hand, I started with the RF-83 system, followed by the RF-82, and lastly the RF-52. I inspected the speakers first. Love the magnetic cover holders. Easy to take off and on. From the physical dimension standpoint, not a whole lot of difference between the RF 82 and the RF 83. There was a pretty sizeable difference between these and the RF 52 though. Of all the movie clips that I demoed, the three that I really keyed on with all three systems were the clip in Monster's Inc where they are trying to get away from the little girl because they think she is dangerous, and she screams in delight when the little green guy ends up under a pile of books causing a huge power surge. Good LFE section. Also used the section in The Day After Tomorrow where the giant wave is crashing into New York City. Finally, also keyed on Pirates of the Caribbean where the ships are battling. Lots of sound effects AND lots of variations in sound dynamics between dialoge and sound effects. Both the RF-83 system and the RF-82 handled the sound dynamic and nuances in all three movies effortlessly. Better still, and a testament to the speakers, my spouse, who was demoing them with me pointed out several dialoge moments and sound bites that we were unaware off in our previous speakers. That is something, considering that my spouse doesn't have the ears that I do for this sort of thing. The RF-52 system was adequate, IMO, but I think it would be hard pressed to perform well in the room where we are going to put them in our home. For a small room, however, it is a very nice system. Next came the musical rendition test with various DVD music clips including the Eagle's Hell Freezes Over. Excellent!!!! Cristal clear and transparent. Excellent rendition of the instruments and the environment. And the horns really come alive for music. I'm not sure how true it is, but the gentleman that helped us indicated that the RF-62 where closer to the RF-52 than to the RF-82. At this point in time, I'm really leaning towards the RF-82 system. I have some more demoying to do, though... I really want to listen to the RF-62 before making a decision. Well.... in reality, I don't think that it will really matter because my dear spouse, (bless her heart), has already pipped that she would "prefer" to have the cherry wood over the black veneer, (wink-wink). Thats a strike on the RF-62 which comes in black only. Personally, I LOVE the RF-82... They have that "umph in your face" for Rock that I love.... So... it's almost time to pull the trigger.... Can any one recommends a web based vendor to buy these systems? Any tip of a good web seller any one?
Jay481985
From what I know there are no authorized Klipsch dealers that sell online or exclusively online
WolfsBane
Most stores have a web site that they use to advertise their products and services. You can purchase them that way, (whether ordering on their web site or calling them on the phone). My concern is for these retailers to be authorized dealers, though... I'm not interested in the "under the table" approach and I want to preserve my warrantee. Any good tips anyone?

LOL I heard that!!! My wife went from speaker performance to aesthetics in nanoseconds... But what are you going to do??? Like the old adage says... "If Momma ain't happy.... there ain't NOBODY happy!" [] Personally, I think that the RF-82 system is the best fit for my needs and taste... WolfsBane
Got it and replied... How do you like those RF-83 speakers after a break-in period? When I heard them, the RC-64, and sub being demoed at the shop, they were shaking the living heck out of the walls in their mini theatre. But you could tell that they were fairly new, (its a new shop)... just a touch of shrillness here and there during musical scores.
ram2500
I realy like my RF-82 but, I am using them as rear speakers. I did compairson when I got them before moving them to the rear. The RF-83 were a more of refined sound to them. Little better all around as far as the sound goes. There was more bass and the mid and highs were less bright. Being such a large price differance there should be big difference in sound quality. The RF-82 is a good buy at the price. As far as center goes the RC-64 is kick but speaker. Very clean and loud dialogue. My center is low and pointing sraight forward do to the space in the tv stand. But it doesn't mater that the speaker doesn't point toward the seating. I turn it up 2-3 db over the mains and it sound perfect. My inlaws came over the house and they like the RC-64 so much that they had me pick up a new RC-62 for them. I mean its subtle at best but sometimes those subtle differences make the world, I am happy which is basically what i was trying to achieve

cybertec
I just picked up a pair of RF82'S Towers and a pair of RS62'S Surounds which I matched up with my RC35 Center "the old Ref line", I also use a SVS PB12-ISD/2 900Watt Sub, they are all pluged into a Denon AVR-3805 Receiver and an Outlaw 770 "7 channels 200watts per channel" Amp, all I can say is WOW, the plaster on my walls needs constant repair:), and my paintings keep shifting, hehe. TheEAR
Since this thread is going strong I will add... I read many posts and people taking about testing using movies, even if the speakers will serve 80% of the time in pure HT use.I would use music to do 80% of the comparos,as no movie can test a pair of mains like well recorded music, and I do not care what movie you may use, heard them all and movies are simply good to test how speakers/subs will react and retain composure during very violent passages. Just my two cents
WolfsBane
When I audition speakers, I want to audition what they sound like for music. If they pass that test, for my taste, the HT applications tend to take care of themselves nicely.
TheSoundBroker
Got to add...I also think the RF-82 is the highest bang for the buck in the Ref IV line. While the 63 and 83 are better...dollar per dollar that 82 is a magnificent piece of work and Klipsch really outdid themselves. Now...if we could just convince them to make an RC-82...
