Joe Shmoe
Cool to see alot of these bands mentioned again... just wish it was more than a fricken half hour show. kelA
I'll agree, that is a pretty good list, but I will have to disagree with # 21. I would not consider 'Paradise City', by G-n-R to be metal, but VH-1 did compile the list so it must be true.[]
colterphoto1
Not a Zeppelin in the bunch- sad.
Fish
Def Leppard,Scopions,Twisted Sister etc..? Yeah, thats some real "Heavy Metal",I saw a few on the list that were worthy.
theryugobuddy
No Van Halen! That makes it a bogus list. I heard Panama today on the radio -- VH should dominate any metal list-- No Zep, either. What--Maybe VH1 should have called their show " The top 40 songs that we could the rights to--"
oldbuckster
Not a Zeppelin in the bunch- sad. They don't belong on that list, they are so high up on the mountain, those other bands could only WISH they were that good. Really, alot of phonies and pretenders on that list, but that's TV for you. Who needs VH1 or MTV to tell me who is top Metal Band, not me for sure.....
Joe Shmoe
I agree, I guess everyone has their own list. I don't think Kiss, Def Leppard, or Guns N Roses should have been on that list either. I guess maybe they should have certain criteria listed, so as to not get Metal/hard rock/rock all mixed up?

I agree with you on Kiss and Leppard, I'll argue GnR. Kiss is all SHOW not much GO, Leppard at best,is Introduction to metal, Guns should have been one of the best, but Rockstar ego's again rears it's ugly head. They had the Stud Guitarist, a great Lead singer, great drummer, what went wrong? Lazy, overindulged, too much hype, and the next day it's over, what a waste of talent. billyjoe72
yeah. Metal is very subjective. I have to laugh at most of them. To me, Slayer is metal. "Reign in blood" , old megadeth, old metallica. It has alot of 80's metal, like Judas Priest. Most people have never even heard a slayer song. Then you have G n R with paradise city which is played on most all stations. I wouldn't call that metal. I remember when welcome to the jungle came out. I was in the army, it was a new sound. Heavy. I really dug it. Motorhead is metal. Again, most average listeners couldn't tell you a motorhead song. Balls to the wall. Oh yeah. Iron Maiden ,,, oh yeah again. Pantara. Yep. Skid row. Dead hair band. Faith no more. Not. Although I like the song. Sepultura. Good angry metal. [:@] Ok... I'm done. toodles
synthfreek
I guess metal is very subjective because I consider Faith No More one of the most underappreciated metal bands ever. Have you actually heard the entire Angel Dust or The Real Thing albums?
IronMaidenFanX
Ok, I have a few things to say about this list. Number one, it does have some really good songs on here, I'm glad they chose to put a Black Sabbath song on the top of the list since Sabbath were the first heavy metal band to really get recognized, and they played such a huge part in creating the genre. For the most part they really did choose real heavy metal bands for this list, I would have never expected them to actually put bands like Sepultura on the list, cause not a lot of people know about them, i know theres some negotiation. I think they should have added a couple bands like Type O Negative, or Sentenced since those are 2 very good Gothic Metal bands, but for some reason many lists try to stay away from gothic music, just because of it's name, and not many people really know what it's actually like. Heres a few bands i don't believe should be on this list. Marilyn Manson- He really is not very heavy metal, he's just considered heavy because of the way he/she/it dresses, and how dark his songs are, he's just a poser magnet. Deep Purple- While they are a good band, they are not heavy metal. AC/DC- They are a very good band, i like AC/DC, but they are Hard Rock, not metal. "It's a long way to the top if you want to rock and roll" notice how they say rock and roll. Guns N' Roses- Another good band, but not a heavy metal band, and Welcome to the Jungle is a good song, it could be considered metal, but there is no way it should be number 2 on a heavy metal list. KISS- Good band, again not heavy metal. About the whole Led Zeppelin thing, Zeppelin is awesome, they are a great band that has had a ton of influence on Hard Rock, but thats just the thing, they are Hard Rock, i don't know many people that would call Zeppelin Heavy Metal, because they aren't Heavy Metal. I know it was stated earlier that everyone has there own list, but i listen pretty exclusively to heavy metal, death metal, gothic metal, thrash metal, and power metal, i know a lot of metal fans, and a lot of fans of the bands i listed above, and any real heavy metal fan would not consider those bands to be metal. If you listen to real heavy metal enough, you know what metal is. If you actually listen to metal you can tell whats metal and whats rock. theryugobuddy
Whoah--All those bands are heavy metal. I guess you would say that Steppenwolf, who coined the phrase, is not heavy metal, too? Because they rock? or roll? Shoot, if that's the case, then Iron Maiden isn't heavy metal either-- At some time, those bands were harder than most anything out there. Looking back , they are not as caustic as or head exploding as Reign in Blood or death metal. Listen to Metallica or Van Halen back when they came out, and they were hard to ears that hadn't heard them before. But now they don't sound do metal. But then--they were--
oldbuckster
Heavy Metal was a term given to LED ZEPPELIN, like it or not, that's the way it was. The word METAL has changed over the years, but back then it was because one minute Led Zeppelin could be kinda soft, and aqcoustic, and the next minute hammer the hell out of you with a sonic attack like no other band could do. Black Sabbath was Dark, almost demonic with their graveyard like music.Sabbath had one style, Led Zeppelin had many styles. Modern day Metal bands have nothing in common with the bands of old, it's a different style. As I stated before, Zepp don't need to be on a list, they headed that list along time ago, other bands must follow them, they set the standard. Maybe we spend to much time putting labels on things, music included!!!!!!! Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, Punk , Progressive, Alternative, Country , Pop, Southern Rock, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Rock n' Roll,..........Why don't we call it MUSIC................... m00n
No Rush? CMon! What is 2112, fairy music? If that's not metal I don't know what is. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Alex Lifeson is one of the most underrated guitarists ever. That man is phenomenal.
