Both great concerts / recordings.

Good DVD concerts are my favorite to get this system running at its finest.

But still I agree, Alison Krauss & Union Station Live is the BEST sounding recording so far...even though I am not a Blue Grass / Country type dude...with a few exceptions..(my wife is though, but she is confused..LOL)

Very well recorded, and Dave hasn't lost a thing in the 40 plus years he's been doing this! Jeez, the man must be damn near 60 and he's still got it! Another keeper!

That's a great band behind him too, your right, could be longer,but.............Try that Bob Marley again, this time shut-off the center channel. I really don't use the center channel on musical performances, don't like the sound.

Too bad, Dave, and Jim C., and Steve Winwood didn't do a Traffic reunion, that original line-up was great. I doubt Dave and Steve will ever perform together, our lose.

I still think the HFO dvd is the benchmark, but that Alison Krauss is an excellent recording. Like you I have never been a big fan of bluegrass, but I certainly like it more today than I did yesterday. []

Since I just ordered 6 more I will have to take a breather on ordering more, but I will certainly consider these 2 when I place my next order.

Yeah, it appears Dave is a little bitter as well.

I've got a couple of Jim Capaldi albums laying around... I should try and dig them up and give them another listen too. Plan on playing the Marley again this weekend. Will let you know what I think.

I'll let you know what I think of them. What can you tell me about the Farewell dvd? How does it compare to HFO?

BTW, my ex-girlfriend of 4 years was from Rockland Me, and she used to say wicked good all the time. I miss hearing it...

Mike, the Eagles Farewell Tour I, Live in Melbourn is a real treat. In my opinion it is even better that HFO. It is a "real" live concert, not the staged rehearsal concert that HFO is, not that HFO is bad for that, just that the Eagles weren't really completely back together back then. In fact, the 2nd lead guitarist on HFO isn't on Live In Melbourne due to some legal issues he had.. there is a new 2nd lead, that is even better.

Joe Walsh is still great and he has a ball on stage, in fact they all do. The Farewell Tour is a double disc set and they each do all their own stuff as well as the Eagles stuff. The sound is excellent!!

If you like the Eagles, you really should get this one.

There are also great backing musicians on this one that really make the concert an audiophiles delight! The Horn section, drummer and piano/organist are fabulous and do a great job of helping the "guys" put on a fabulous show.

They are all at the top of their game and loving what their doing.

Joe Walsh is wild and having a great time. "Maybe I'll remember some of it this time"

Put this one on your MUST OWN list.

Can't imagine too many guitarists sounding better than Don Felder but I'll take your word for it. My buddy just ordered it so I'll borrow it from him, and will then purchase it myself. Thanks for the great writeup!

Hi Mike, yeah, I agree, Felder is an excellent guitarist and he also added some songs to the Eagles repetoir espcially on Hotel California I seem to remember, so that is a bummer in a way, but this new guy they have is pretty amazing too.

I guess Felder had a contract/money dispute with Henley and Frey and that broke them up.

Steuart Smith is the new guitarist and I think he is very good, but he is technical, but maybe doesn't have the songs personalized like Felder did in HFO.

The sound and video is even better than HFO, if you can imagine that?! It is that good.

Steve, your description just sold me over. Couldn't wait for my buddies copy so I had to order my own. And just to many favorable reviews to ignore the Motown dvd. They should be here in another week or so.

Cool, (I won't tell, don't worry...) You'll like that Eagle's Farewell Tour.. it's great.

The other real reference DVD, that I think has been mentioned, but maybe not raved about, is Steely Dan "Two Against Nature"... if you know anything about Steely Dan, you know that Donald Fagen and Walter Becker are perfectionist. They just about invented the word, and they have driven many musicians crazy because they bring them into the studio, listen to their rendition of whatever it is they're looking and for and then if they don't like what they hear, they go do it all over again with someone else.

In this DVD they have some incredible musicians and they do much of their best stuff. The recording is top notch and real reference material.. every bit as good as HFO.

I don't see how anyone can not love this music... it's just that good, soulful, jazzy, pop, rock, hip.

...Green Earings, Cousin Dupree, Josie, pretzel Logic and many others.. sexy back-up chicks singing.. what's not to like?!

I have both the Last Waltz and Steely Dan dvds... I neglected to mention them in my original post. I am a huge Steely Dan fan. I own everything but Gaucho on vinyl, and own that in DVD-A format (outstanding dvd)!

OK... I can see this thread dying a slow death so will try and pump a little more life into it. My Amazon order arrived yesterday (Led Zep, Petty and Talking Heads), and I am still waiting on the DeepDiscountDVD order to come in.

I started out with the Zeppelin (who wouldn't :-) and played numerous tracks from both discs. Loved the Bonham solo on disc 1 (Moby Dick), and loved just about everything on disc 2. The accoustic stuff sounds fantastic. Only played it via DTS and it is very well done. Some great concert footage too, for those of you that never got a chance to see this band. I would like to comment that it appears Robert always has a rolled up sock in his shorts though. []

Next came the Petty (Grass Dogs) and it is very good, although not great. The performance is there, and the song list is outstanding... I just thought the recording to be slightly better than average. This is just my opinion, however.

Then came the Talking Heads. In a word - phenomenal! This one has it all! Great music, great show, and most of all, great recording! I tried both the 5.1 Feature Film setting and the 5.1 Studio setting, and the Feature Film setting blew it away! For those of you that are on the fence on this one I highly recommend it! You don't even have to be a huge fan (I am not)... this one will still impress.

Rattle and Hum ; U2 a good look at a young band on the rise finding their roots in America

U2 go Home Live at Slane Castle, Home in Ireland this is a stripped down U2 back home with their Tribe, no flash, no big production, just bare boned U2

Bob Marley ; the Legend Live recorded 1979 last performance before his passing, two lead guitarists, I think it starts out slow, but cooks in the end, I'm just a Marley fan........

Last but not Least, one of my favorite DVD's, not everyone will agree;

Four Flicks; the Rolling Stones what a bargain this four disc set is, I think Best Buy is the only place you can buy it, an Arena show, a Stadium show, and a Great Club show. Now I know with the Stones it's You Love'm, or you Hate'm, It would be unfair of me to write anymore because I believe they are the Greatest Rock n' Roll Band in the World, you might not, but if you like them even alittle bit this is for you..................So Mike there is a few more,...........Would you buy that Tom Petty again if you didn't have it? That acoustic Led Zeppelin is just AWESOME, worth the price of the disc alone..........

Hey, OB, thanks for the new recs. I listened to the TP again last night and enjoyed it more the 2nd time around. So yes, I would definitely buy it if I didn't have it.

I will consider the Stones set. I am not a huge fan, but am a fan, nonetheless. I certainly liked them a lot more back in the mid 70's, early 80's. If any of the concert footage is from that time period then I will have to look into it.

I too am a big Bob Marley fan, and will look at the Legend Live dvd.

As I posted earlier The Talking Heads: Stop Making Sense is among my personal all time top 5. I agree the Feature Film setting is much better. This movie played for 2 years at the Fine Arts Theatre in downtown Chicago when the film was originally released. This was the old Studebaker Theater, a 1000 seat grand old lady that now is closed. I must have seen it a dozen times with my girlfriend at the time who was a student at Roosevelt College next door. She is now my wife and this movie gets played on our HT regularly. Directed By Jonathan Demme this movie catches the Heads at their peak. I also agree you do not have to be a huge fan to enjoy this, it is that good.

BTW did you order the Keller Williams after we spoke on Sunday?

Mike, you have to trust me on this, Four Flicks is the best Stones there is on video, and even at full Best Buy price $29.99 it's a steal, and I've seen it as low as $19.99. Forget the rag tag shows of the 70,s, Four Flicks is a quality set. The only thing that could make it better, would be Mick Taylor, but Woody Rocks. Check it out.

let me know how you liked Lucinda and Richard Thompson too.. I realize both are somewhat of an acquired tastes, but between Lucinda's earthy lyrics and the guitar army behind her I'm hoping you liked her.

Richard Thompson is anothe eclectic performer, but that recording is an audiophiles delight with the upright bass digging way down low on the bottom end just vibrating the floor with the sub-woofer. Thompson's guitar isn't too hard to appreciate either.

Anyone else got any recommendations? I'm in the mood to spend some money on music.

Did anyone get the Lindsey Buckingham? You have know idea what your missing if your a fan. If your not a fan you still may enjoy this. Songs that you think you know are redone WAY better. One of my favorites for sure, and I mean right up there as one of the best easily for sound quality, performance doesn't matter it's phenominal. To short is the only complaint.
