CaptnBob
I've recently heard from a friend who would like to get into kit building and SETs, and was thinking of starting with some Bottleheads. Anybody had any experience with them, both in sound quality and ease in construction? I believe his skills are "entry level," which is, after all, where everybody starts. I remember a guy in college who bought a SWTPC Universal Tiger, expecting something on the Dynaco-Heathkit line, and got a sack of parts - most of which had to do with the amp - and a schematic. Things did not go well - especially the first time he plugged it in...
Mike Lindsey
Colin's got a pair of the Paramours. I don't believe he bought his in kit form, tho. You may want to email or PM him. Mike
trioid
Howdy from AZ: I built a Bottlehead Foreplay III preamp. Very pleased with that... hope to move on to some Paramounts to replace my PP tube amp. jim
frankphess
Am currently using a Bottlehead Foreplay with an Anthem 200 watt solid state, with RF-7's in 2-channel and think it sounds very good. For the price, it is a bargain. Very detailed with a nice black backround and dead quiet.

Daddy Dee
I had a pair of Paramors for a while. The sound was very good.
trioid
Hi Daddy Dee: What did you replace them with, and would you comment on why? - is your logo related to a movie based on a story from our friend CS Lewis?
Marvel
I had three mours for a while, but had to get rid of one of them. Now I only have a paramours. Indeed, Daddy Dee likes the Aslan reference, perhaps because he is a pastor. Bruce
trioid
2 mours is a paramours......wife and i have phds.. so, we are collectively a paradox? Sorry. (the kids think so anyway) But, i assume the Moondogs were your choice? I wonder how they would compare with the paramounts.... the issue here, is that making stuff is fun. Modifying it is fun, too. Marvel
Jim, The Moondogs are a recent addition, after being passed around by a couple of forum members. They work well for me with the LaScalas, 13x 21 ft LR. I don't play stuff much over 80db, so they are okay. I am not going to say they are the be all and end all of amps. What a silly idea. But I like them a lot. Not much to see with the lights out though. They barely light up. Not like the little city at night that the Dynaco is with the lights out. The Moondogs were a bit of extravagance on my budget. As with my guitar purchases, I will never sell them. Always thought of the Bottlehead kits, just never tossed the money their way. SET12
Check this out this company both Push-Pull and SET's How about a DIY push pull EL84! It doesn't get any easier than this! Their is alot of fun things that can be done with this simple circuit as you know EL84's are to some the best of the Pentode tube in the world! I don't care for the power supply but its a place to begin I can recomend a tube supply if your interested their is no global feedback here just local! and a single-ended driver stage that BTW can be set up with any number of tubes in the 12AX7 family pin out. I prefer pentode mode for the best dynamics ! with a 100 ohm resistor connected to the screens and plates you have triode mode you could try LED biasing of the driver stage all parts should be available at any number of DIY parts suppliers. http://www.world-designs.co.uk/acatalog/AmpKits.html SET12
TommyK
I have built the Foreplay and Paramours and picked up a pair of Parabees. The guys on the bottlehead forum are very friendly. I don't think any one of the kits that are out there today are *better* than the others. They may sound different, but it comes down to price tradeoffs and taste. Building a Bottlehead kit is lots of fun and a great way to learn. Highly recommended. Peace, TommyK
