wcd2000
Can anyone give me info on the serial numbers for the Klipch serial numbers? Anything would be nice. The s/n's are B 4N255 and B4N254. I have attached pictures of the speakers. Any idea what i might sell them for? Thanks Robert
JohnA
The B is not part of the SN. The N indicates 1974, if I did my math correctly. It should have been a good year. They should have Type AA networks, one of the better designs. John
RossVTaylor
Robert, I paid a grand for my walnut finish LaScalas last year, and I think that's a bit higher than the going rate actually. Your black LaScalas would most likely go for less than that. John, You've seen a lot more of these than I have - what are the vertical braces or dividers in the bass cabinet? Mine don't have those. Is that common in the industrial LaScalas, or just particular years? Ross ------------------ My System's Stuff
Tony Reed
Vertical braces? I've seen a lot of LaScala's, but I've never seen factory LaScala's with that type of brace. (Or any other brace for that matter.) Maybe they've been added by an "odds & mods" kinda guy. Tony
Dave in Nashville
Robert: I agree with Ross. Because of the black finish (which looks pretty rough in your pictures), you won't be able to ask top dollar should you decide to sell them. You failed to mention if the speakers were in working order...do all the speakers actually work or are any blown or fried? Dave
RossVTaylor
Robert, Tony's one of the Klipsch experts. Heck, I think he's got a Klipsch speaker for every state in the union... If those braces were indeed added aftermarket, then those may negatively affect your sales price. Do you have any info on those vertical panels? The pictures don't show them very clearly, but they seem to make the bass cabinet throat narrower. This seems contrary to traditional compression driver/horn construction theory, I think. I'd be curious to know why they were added and how that affected the sound, if you happen to know the history of these speakers. I don't mean to sound at all critical - I'm just very curious! Thanks much, Ross ------------------ My System's Stuff
djk
I see no added braces.Look closely at the first photo. The angle where the right side meets the bottom may be followed all the way to the back corner.Nothing has been added here. Those are standard home LaScalas that have been brush pained black.Very beat up.If everything worked well in them I'd say they were worth $400 tops.A lot of old LaScalas end up in either the basement or an unheated garage.Hard on the woofer and tends to rust the network parts. RossVTaylor
DJK, Thanks, you seem to be absolutely correct. In looking at those dark photos, it sure looked like something vertical and shiny near the front of the speaker. Now that I've blown them up and looked again from your perspective, I guess you're right. That shiny black paint threw me off and ... maybe I need to turn up the brightness on my monitor, or maybe have my eyes checked again? Thanks for "solving" that for me! JohnA
Ross, I think you're seeing shadows and reflections, too. John
RossVTaylor
Yeah, John. It's real clear now that I'm looking at the *bottom* of the cabinet, but looking at the *top* of the cabinet sure threw me off. Kind of an optical illusion, like the neat one attached here. Try it out - it's freaky! Ross ------------------ My System's Stuff
dougdrake2
Ross - The "freaky" part was trying to 'splain to Mary why I was jerking my head back and forth like that whilst sitting in front of the PC. She already thinks I might groove on this board a little too much!! Doug ------------------ My System

ShapeShifter
fwiw, my Alpha Date Codes indicate 1975 as date of manufacture for serial numbers with "N". Can't understand why someone would paint over those irreplaceable Classic Klipsch Logos. Wes ------------------ "KLIPSCH IS MUSIC"f>
soundog
If they are in good working order I think you will get more than $400. on ebay. However, if you could sand and repaint them you might increase their value to as much as $800. ------------------ Soundog's HT Systems This message has been edited by soundog on 11-28-2001 at 10:52 PM
