Couple of speakers you might be more familiar with. The horrible little Khorn Aniversary and the magestic Promedia 2.0 for comparison.

Please note my complete lack of bias here - despite the fact I own the Promedia's....

(If you are wondering why the anniversary's are hidden away - they were actually already sold - and the owner allowed them to go to the show on the condition they could not be touched by anyone - so he stood guard over them the whole show - 3 days of it and this was the closest I could get to it)

And finally - for day one anyway....TADA......

The Clearaudio Statement - all 350 Kilos of it. All new - no bearings - all magnetic levitation - pendulum balancing system to the table is always perfectly horizontal. Magnetic only connection between drive and table - zero vibration. All new arm design using only 2 wheels. Ultra dead wooden base - something like 100 layers bonded together to be totally audibly inert.

All that - and it wasn't playing. $120,000 and they had it in the lobby!! (not too many concerns about someone walking off with it of course).

Chap standing proudly behind it is Robert Suchy - President of Export marketing. Which means he is either very important, or not.

Nightmare photo to try to take - and god knows if it will show in such a reduced copy. What you should be looking for is a gap between the lower wheel that is attached to the motor and the upper wheel that is attached to the table. The only link is magnetic.

OK - bit of a break from posting pictures. Interesting news for anyone that owns a clearaudio. Remember I mentioned the tricle down of technology from the Statement? Well it has started already. From now on no Clearaudio TT has a bearing - they all use magnetic leviation. This means they all gain suspension. You get a high mass, suspended table - really really cool.

I heard the little emotion playing with the new "magnetic bearing" and it was staggeringly good.

Good news - it is available as an upgrade to existing owners of any clearaudio table.

Bad news - mine costs 500 euros ($600).

Good news - my birthday is in January.

They also have a new cleaning machine. The old one was too big and $2500 or more. The new one is way smaller and about $700.

Good news - Christmas....

Bad news - I heard the Simon Yorke table. [:'(]

OK that will do for the posting for now - there is lots more but I am knackered - feel free to comment for a while and more will follow.....

Best highs and mids I have ever heard in a speaker - that wooden horn is to die for - worst bass - flopping about like viagra had never been invented - I can fart the 1812 more realistically than this speaker was playing.

Max, I love your descriptive narration...straight to the point! And your pictures, while small, and all in focus and nicely exposed, even if you were balancing on one foot! Guess you needed a longer telephoto lens to capture the 60th Anniversary Klipschorns...but hey, we've all seen 'em before.

Great job all the way 'round...you're one lucky ba$tard to have been able to attend this audio event and virtually have free rein over all the excellent gear. Looking forward to the remainder of your picture show.[Y]

Was hoping when you mentioned French made horn speakers that you were refering to a new lineup of Triangle Electroacoustique models, since their tweeters are so-called horn-loaded (next to Klipsch, I'm a big fan of Triangle as well, since I own a pair).

Ben,

I got it - it was a good one.

JT,

Now you come to mention it this is the first time in a long time that there were no Triangle speakers at the show.

The problem is that the distributor has too many products and cant get them all there.

So where were we - ah yes - day 2 - not so many that you would like - but here are a few:

I think this is the TT that was running those french speakers / avantgardes - if so it was another Transrotor.

Kinda cool but a bit naff - a "look at me I'm rich table" although it actually sounds quite good - if a bit flashy.

Talking of those strange French bargain speakers here they are. They are called GKF and look something like a cross between a KHorn, a KLF 30 and a Brazilian Rain-forest.

Both models you can see are 35Hz - 19KHz. the smaller one is 98db/w/m and the bigger one 100. Power handling up to 500 watts (why?).

Interestingly it is the smaller one (with the single woofer) that has the separate tweeter/mid unit and the external cross-over. The big one is 100 Kg and the smaller one 45.

What more info could you want - other than they sounded great (with 60,000 Euros worth of driving equipment behind them).
