TheEAR
No hernia yet,I can lift a few 100lbs with no issues, when it reaches over 600lbs per sub then I have problems,as my subs have to stay a two people move. Not finished yet,the sanding was done tonight...tomorrow the paintining...[] I was hoping today but no.... Jay481985
did you countersink the driver baffle to 3/4 it lookes like with the two ply of mdf you went only 1/2 inch to the 3/4 inch mdf?
darkside
Is it really that big a deal? Does it make that big of a difference?
Jay481985
i thought it was 3/4 inch countersunk to be flush with trim
darkside
I've read stuff before, but am still not sure... does mounting a speaker flush affect the sound? I thought I read that it prevents diffusion or something like that... I really don't know.
Jay481985
no but it looks better
TheEAR
The drivers will only be 1cm countersunk. It is fine.
darkside
Looks are important, but here it is..." All of the drivers on the front baffle are recessed; this is important to reduce diffraction" This is from a review of an Axiom bookshelf... Jay481985
it can matter on a bookshelf or speaker but not so much on a subwoofer
TheEAR
it can matter on a bookshelf or speaker but not so much on a subwoofer EXACTLY On full range speakers(say even 100Hz and up) countersinking can have an effect. But under 80Hz or lower...almost NONE. TheEAR
Also Dynaudio does not countersink drivers, take the Contour series,so this hoopla about the impact on sound quality is overblown. If the gains would be audible I am sure they would countersink,as they have all the tooling in the world to do so.In fact Dyanudio production is done in house like Paradigm for everything(save the amps). No need to outsource! Jay481985
but the dynaudio also have their own heatsink plate that probably works as a reflections plate as well.
TheEAR
Not much of a heatsink, more of a stable and inert platform to mount the drivers on. It uses the alloy baffle and a piece of rubber comes in to separate from the actual box.
