mark1101
I would install a second hard drive and back up all your data/pictures. This could be an external USB hard drive for simplicity, or an internal which would be faster but you gotta go inside and install it. Then, uninstalling the old SW is less of a risk. One thing I learned is that if you don't know how to fix it yourself, and the phone support can't get it going....take it to someone who knows what to do. BEC
"This machine has my entire photo career on it" Trusting your entire photo career to one hard drive on one PC running windows is a more important problem to correct first than the other problem. colterphoto1
I have my 'current work' on this machine, all digital files are backed up etc. But I really don't want to download/copy a billion image files just to fix the operating system. Paladin
hmm...If you need to simply reinstall the Operating System (Windows) and software on your machine without losing your data by reformatting your old hard drive.... You could buy a new hard drive, replace the old one with it (on the IDE cable). Place your old hard drive on the secondary input of the IDE cable to use as a backup drive. Install windows on the new hard drive, thus leaving your old hard drive with all your data on it as a back up drive. You'd need to have a copy of windows to install and all the drivers for your hardware, or a third party vendor's system recovery disk (Compaqs and HP's come with these) that you can use to install the original OS and hardware drivers. Your PC case would also need a place to secure two hard drives in to it (usually they do these days). That might kill two birds with one stone...and if you buy a big new hard drive you could easily double or triple your current disk space.
