I just got home from picking up my first pair of Klipsch Speakers. It was a 3 hour round trip drive but I think it will be worth it. The lady took very good care of them. There are a few scuffs on the side but nothing major.

Klipsch CF-2 Fronts
Klipsch KV3 Center
Velodyne F1500

Two months ago, I sold my old Onkyo, Polk and Velodyne system to begin saving for my RF-83 setup. I saw an add on Craigslist and figured it is going to be difficult to wait 1 year till we build our house with dedicated theater room so I thought that the CF-2 setup would hold me over for a year, then I could always sell it to another forum member when I actually upgrade to the RF-83 setup.

I know these are old speakers but has anyone had any experience with them? Are they a decent starter Klipsch system? Any ideas what the 4 speakers would be worth? I believe I got a good deal on them.

I now have to find a receiver to power them since I am starting over. I'll probably look for a used, older stereo or 5.1 receiver as a temporary receiver. I eventually want to get a 7.1 HK or Yamaha receiver with HDMI 1.3 support. I'll upload some pics in a bit.

As promised, here are some pics.

I'm probably going to go look at a HK AVR 55 tonight for $100.00. There also is a HK AVR 65 for $125. Do you think this would work well as a temporary system? I noticed that both receivers have amp pre-outs which is nice. My last Onkyo receiver did not. The 55 seems to have better reviews than the 65. Mechanical issues mostly. Anyone have any experience with either of these receivers or speakers?

You have a great set up! I found out about Klipsch many years ago and have not found any thing close. I'm running a Pioneer Elite VSX-09TX Receiver, pair of KG-5.5 (front), pair of KG-2.5(suround), KG-2.2 (center), pair of SW-10 subwoofers, single Velodyne F1800RII and a Onkyo DV-CP702 6 disc DVD/CD player. I also had to have a pair of KG-1.5 and a pair or KG-.5 as well and a KV-3 and a KV-2. You will find excellent support from Forum members and Klipsch server department, Velodyne is excellent in support as well, enjoy!! AL.

Actually, your speakers will work for far longer than "temporary" - but if you do decide to make them such, drop me a line when you are ready to sell them.

As for the receivers - they didn't get very good reviews - being one of the previous generations of HK and when they started to let things slide. Will they make music - yes, will you actually enjoy it and fully hear the potential of your speakers - doubtful. You might be better off looking for a Yamaha of the same generation, although expect to pay a few bucks more.

Yes and the F1800R was a tuff find and having a Velodyne F1500 on the upstairs system I knew the F1800RII would hit the notes I was looking for. I have it set up and it sounds great! I now have two Pioneer VSX-09TX units and they are built like a battle tank! Best wishes on you high end system, sounds like your going the right way with it! AL.

Thx Al, but I'm on a $100 budget. Not looking to get a fancy receiver, just something to get me by for a year. I picked up the Receiver today. Immaculate condition. The guy took very good care of it. Have not tested it on the speakers. Will hook everything up tonight and listen to it tomorrow. I'll post a review of my impression.

Well...I couldn't resist. I'm like a kid at Christmas. I set everything up tonight in my 8' x 8' office. Wife and kids are in bed so I had to keep it pretty low. So far I have only listened to them in stereo with no subwoofer. The HK sounds clean and the Klipsch are extremely detailed and warm. I think that my $250.00 investment was well worth it for the 4 speakers. I paid $100 today for the HK Receiver. I am extremely pleased so far with my $350 investment. I can't wait till the morning when the wife goes to work. I'm dying to hear what they sound like with more volume and some thump from the 15" Velodyne sub. I'm a little worried about the integrity of my walls being in such a small space. [:D]

I think you'll really enjoy your current set up. Don't be in any hurry to upgrade unless you actually think that the sound quality isn't adequate for the kind of listening you are doing. I'm sure though that you could enjoy those CF-2's for many years to come though. I had 4 KG 3.5 towers that I enjoyed immensely for the last 7 years until I upgraded just this week to a pair of RF-3 towers. I really think that the funnest part of building my Klipsch setups has been finding the speakers for really good deals on craigslist; and then of course listening to the reward [;)]

I'm not in a big hurry. Now that I have heard them, I'll likely keep them. I think I will put them in my office when we build our house and have the RF-83 for my theater room.

Colter, you are probably right about the electronics on top of the sub. It was just a temporary setup so I could check it out. I'll have to find a small table or something to place it on.

I couldn't wait to get up this morning. I had a few minutes before I had to go to work to demo the speakers. I really like them. Part of me wants to move them to my living room so I can see how the new system compares to my previous Onkyo, Polk & Velodyne (10 in sub) setup. The other part of me says leave them in the office because I spend much more time in there than I do on the couch watching TV. I do not want to run wires under the carpet of the house we are renting so I have no need for rears at the moment. Who knows, I might move them into the living room to check them out, then move them back into the office. Either way, I'm enjoying my inexpensive investment. I am definitely a Craigslist fan.

Its a great feeling having an awesome sounding system for not much money, isn't it?

Total cost for my setup (not including TV) was Forte IIs = $275, SVS sub = $575, H/K receiver = $180, Oppo player = $169...grand total $1199. Bring $1200 into any store and you won't be able to come up with anything close.

I totally agree. Bargains are great when you can come across them. Persistence, patience and a little luck to be at the right place at the right time is a great thing. Someone mentioned it earlier, the hunt makes it fun too.
