STL Posted January 9, 2002 Share Posted January 9, 2002 I am thinking of dampening my horns with dynamat instead of rope caulk. I already have a bunch of dynamat (actually a knock-off of the dynamat stuff: http://www.partsexpress.com/...item#268-010 ). I was thinking of using it and just placing one piece on each side of the horn (K-85-Ks from KG5.5s and 4.2s) but not on the curved corners; so this wouldn't totally cover the backside of the horn like rope caulk. I was wondering if anyone feels this might do more harm than good -- or better yet has anyone tried this? jnorv Posted January 9, 2002 Share Posted January 9, 2002 I used the functional equivalent of dynamat for the mid range horns in my La Scalas. Your price is even better than the stuff I bought locally. It seems to work quite well on the mental mid range horns. I used 2 layers on the 17 inch width and one layer on the sides (5 1/2 inch). Triode Pete Posted February 8, 2002 Share Posted February 8, 2002 On my vintage K-horns (1974), I dampened both metal midrange and tweeter horns with small bubblewrap. Yes, bubblewrap with 1/2" diameter plastic bubbles. Got the idea after putting away various bell Christmas tree ornaments. The exterior applied bubble wrap completely removes all ringing with a variety of china/porcelain and metal bells! The tweak is extremely simple & easy to remove unlike self-adhesive mats, caulk or modeling clay. I liked the results.
