"a subwoofer for audiophiles"??

I just found an incredible product (if it really delivers what they say), it is "a subwoofer for audiophiles", they claim it is the most musical one and also uses a new technology which alow them to reach 25Hz from a 5.25 driver...

Anyone cares to look and give opinions?

(their site is on reconstruction, but the above link is working)

I just found more info here:

not true, generally, most of music we hear is reproduced by drivers which cover from 200 Hz to 3000 Hz. Since no natural instrument I know of produces a "pure" tone, we also have an instrument's harmonics extending in both directions, lower and higher in frequency. There are half a dozen instruments which can have the first harmonic of a note in the mid-bass region (60 to 200 Hz): violin, kettle drum, clarinet, trumpet, French horn, bass clarinet, bassoon, bass tuba, cello, bass viola, electric bass, piano (30 Hz) and even the human voice (40 Hz). Which means that some harmonics descend lower than that. Without accurate reproduction of low musical notes at the same level of the rest of the material, the tweaking audiophile is missing out if they do not have a strong bottom end. These days, that means a SS powered sub.

Mike,

Real audiophiles want to have a solid foundation from where to go up.True sub bass is a must unless you listen to some specific recordings that dont have any deep bass at ANY point in the recording.

I am a real AUDIOPHILE and I use subs.Only I use very high quality subs as opposed to mass market crap . Wink.gif Does Aerial ring a bell? Revel?

Velo ? Yes these are very CLEAN and DEFINED subs...NOT JUST POWER FOR POWER AND BLIND FOOLISH SPL FOR THE SAKE OF BRAINLESS SPL.

If I wanted mostly SPL I would buy Pro horn loaded Cerwin Vega or Klipsh or JBL and stack a wall of them...then I could obtain skull crushing, liver mushing SPL to make a war veteran hide in fear.

Those so called "audiophiles" who own these tiny speakers with no bass and claim to hear the truth are bozos and clowns.

High-End is all about accuracy and the capability to reproduce the full range as well as the feeling of the original. With the range limited its simple Foo Fi for brainwashed snooty elite.

"Tube Geeks and Trolls."

Welcome to the Klipsch bulletin Bored.

With the general attitude towards Solid State,

don't you feel kind of like a outsider, EARS?

I get that kind of feel.

Just what is so bad about SS anyway?

I'll admit my Yamaha amp is nothin' to brag about.

But it sounds clean, has balls.

And if it's too bright, then I'll play with

the Passive crossover to pad accordingly,

or turn down the treble on the Pre.

I wish there was somewhere nearby I could discover

and listen to the "Magic" of Valve amplifiers.

I'm curious to what it's all about, and if it's

actually that magical.

Anything to add to this Complex Audio Issue, Forrest?

That last post seemed insulting in a nice way.

Doug,

Done...check your email.

Mike,

No I dont feel rejected in any way(well some on this BB cant stand TheEAR...its fine with me).

In fact most dont like solid state amps with Klipsch because they did not try or find quality solid state amps very expensive(and its true).

To me a quality SS amp will drive any realistic load with no problem(remain linear and THD kept very low)and not add or remove anything if at all possible from the signal.A good amp must be very silent, when there is no signal even with RF-7's I should hear nothing(well I do hear a slight "noise").

Quality SS amps are more practical then tube amps.SS amps are trouble free and dont require much work to sound great.Just plug in and press POWER.That is it,no tweaking to tweak a softy softball,no lightbulb changes.

LOL

Its just me but I like my solid state amps heavy and powerful.Even if I use at most 10% of the rated power.

One thing I do prefer is tube preamps to solid state. The tube preamp will bring some of the tube magic to a great solid state amp.Best of both worlds.

as a musician as well as an avid listener..(i'm not sure what an "audiophile" is) i was taught in college that a perfect balance in a musical ensemble is built on a pyramid of sound: the bass being the foundation of the music and the higher frequencies are lower in actual volume as the frequency rises. with this "perfect" balance, the human ear will hear all frequencies equally....in other words, the tuba will need to be much greater in decibels than the piccolo to be perceived as the same volume.....

someone once said...."perception is reality"

No way, can't stand you? Your such a swell guy!

I LMAO when you posted 'Cornbreadwalls'.

What Tube Pre-amps do you have any interests

in? (Any brands?)

I need to get a pair of 'Pornwalls', LOL.

(Seriously though, a pair would be nice.)

They must not be letting Forrest out in the

Dayroom lately.

THANX!

a large part of the problem, Ears, is that many SS amps make it sound like they are all good, how does someone decide on a $500 or $1K or $3K amp whne all the specs look good? Yet you can plug in a rusty old $250 tube amp, with horrible specs, and still get much of the lush mid-range that many people talk about ... how is any one to decide which SS is a good match for the rReference series, or even worse, the Heritage line?

Mike,

I use the Audio Research LS25 with my Krell FPB600 in the music only system(shared space with the my big HT system).

I tell you you match a great tube preamp with a mighty high quality SS amp and you will have the best of both worlds.

No regrets so far, even if I had to save plenty to buy these. Its all worthwile,to me at least.

Ah the power and grace. Its real magic

Colin,

True, many old tube amps with unimpressive specs will sound better on most speakers than lets say the new mass market amps.

You should take a look at this month HOME Theater review. They have an all(almost)MADRIGAL High-End system.I am drooling over the new Levinson pre/pro with its two separate chassis design(audio/video)! WOW

Talk about value, at $40 000 US its not your mid fi Denon 5800(or my poor 5800). cwm3.gif

Audio Research LS25, how much do these

set one back?

(I'm sure I can't afford it.)

A mere guess here Colin, but It

looks like these old Heritage or (Classic?) lines are so Dynamic and revealing that you have to

shell out some big money on Solid State amplification,

one with no artifacts too reveal in a dynamic speaker.

Ear understands what I'm talking about.

When you talk about the equipment choices and

money involved, Tube amplifiers seem like

a reasonable choice.(Costwise.)

Audio upgrades: The last Frontier!

I give up.

It's time for me to just enjoy the music and

what I have.

Two 16/46's, MX-1,CX-1 amp and pre, and Chorus II's

with wire and crossover upgrade.

(Minus sub amp.)

I'm still under two grand in the system.

I won't mention the source.

Most guys with my income, have a GPX stereo,

so I don't think I'm doing too bad.

Too much lurking, THANX!
