damonrpayne
So, this weekend I am making a whole bunch of changes to KlipschCorner.com. One of them is this saucy looking new animated Room Mode Calculator. Nicer looking, but same functionality, as its markup-based predecessor:
damonrpayne
By the way, that's my room. Strong modes at 23hz, but look at the lovely even mode distribution.
seti
Very cool damon. I guess this is the older one? When does the new room calc get updated? Here are some modes someone on the forum ran for me. Ihave some very heavy curtains on the wall behind the system that coversmuch of the wall. There are also curtains on the left side and a largecd rack wall mounted on the other side. Also a rug on the floor. Thisis the best sounding room I have had. Not sure how to read the prettygraphs LOL... I'd love to have the room measured with all thetreatments. artto
That mode calculator looks pretty Damon. However I see only the older version on the website. Also, even though decimal places are shown in the room dimensions, only whole numbers (one foot increments) can plugged into the calculator. And of course, one more suggestion. Your text description needs to be updated. You mention how room modes can make certain frequency louder as they reinforce each other, but the more important point is they can and do also cause cancellations. An amplitude increase/reinforcement is far more tolerable than having the frequency missing (cancelled).
damonrpayne
The changes are happening this weekend when I can take the site down and not ruffle too many people. Good feedback! -The new tool allows decimal #s. -Do you guys think I should keep the "tabular" version, or is the graphical representation what people really use? I assume the graphical one since mode distribution is of interest
damonrpayne
Ooh, I should add calculated room volume. I would add recommended ratios but I haven't found the means of calculating that.
seti
Ooh, I should add calculated room volume. I would add recommended ratios but I haven't found the means of calculating that. It is very cool. Now if I only understood it better : )
artto
Yes, keep the tabular version. And which formula are you using?
damonrpayne
Artto: I will post the formulas here this weekend, but, what I'm doing is: 1) calculate axial, tangential, and oblique modes based on room dimensions 2) applying a relative mode strength where multiple modes stack at a given frequency (ie an axial and tangential at 23hz) 3) Remove duplicates (squre rooms, etc)
oldtimer
Can it compensate for openings and niches in a room? otherwise it looks useless for me.
seti
So how do I go about reading this? Good bad or ugly?
