Oosto
Hi there! I'm new to this forum although I've been a Klipsh owner for a few years now. Anyways, I'm currently running a Reference 35 System and I'm thinking of upgrading my RC-35 centre channel to a RC-64. My question is, would I notice a significant improvement in performance by upgrading to the RC-64?
InVeNtOr
i am sure you would, but you want to keep the front 3 matched.

Deang
i am sure you would, but you want to keep the front 3 matched. I can't imagine the difference effecting timbre -- the drivers are little different mechanically, but the materials are the same.
DU73
Oosto – another Australian Klipsch fan – so you are the other one. He he - you have like the same set up as me. Great minds think alike they say J All jokes aside I do know however that some people upgraded their RC35 to the RC7 – you should notice a BIG difference if you go down this route – that is if you can get your hands on one as not many people want to part with their RC7. Let us know how you go..
samson
Oosto if you can get the RC-64 at a good price, pick it up! After you buy that it might drive you to upgrade the other 2 mains. Good luck!
InVeNtOr
dean, thats what klipch says. everyone there said to keep the same front 3 in the same series. 83/63 with 64, 82/62 with 62....etc. i asked specifically if the 64 would be a good pair with the 82. they said i would hear a difference but it's not the "optimum" speaker for my mains. now if Oosto wants to get a 64 now and then later upgrade his 35's to 83's or 63's, i'd say great idea. InVeNtOr
also i would like to add, the rc-35's are made of MDF, and (i was told) the 64 is actual rear wood, not MDF.
Guest srobak
I have an RC62 with my RF35s... blends beautifully.
Oosto
Thanks for the advice guys. I have heard that the RC-7 is a step-up in performance but finding one is the real trick! I can still get a brand new cherry RC-64 which will match (in colour) my RF-35's so it looks like the 64 is the way to go for me. As for RF-83's... I better start saving! Jay481985
also i would like to add, the rc-35's are made of MDF, and (i was told) the 64 is actual rear wood, not MDF. The RC64 is mdf too... Just uses real wood veneer to cover the mdf. The rc-35 use vinyl over mdf. Real wood would not be best for speaker materials.
falcon20x
I should have been more specific on this one, the RC 64 is wood veneer on the outside as well as the inside unlike the RC 7 which is only wood veneer on the outside and expose MDF on the inside Sorry about the confusion
Jay481985
I think both are veneered inside and out (rc64 and rc7) because they brought the mdf cherry panels on both sides already.

falcon20x
I just looked again, only the RC 64 is veneer inside and out, the RC 7 is MDF only inside
travis-g
i had to change out a driver in my rc-64 and all i saw was mdf no veneer
Jay481985
maybe it depended on the wood lot they had when they made the speakers?
Oosto
In any case, I've seen the finish on both RC-64 and RC-7 and IMHO looks way classier than the vinyl wrap on my 35's. I guess the ol' saying applies - you get what you pay for.
