artto
I just got a new LED/DLP HDTV. Personally, I think the picture looks terrific. However I've been reading that the picture quality, especially in reagards to color accuracy can be improved by calibration. I've seen some cheaper calibration tools (monster cable for $29) or more expensive stuff like Spyder3TV ($200). Is any of this woth it? And if so why? $200 seems kind of pricey for something I'm only going to use once or twice.
Cal Blacksmith
For the best picture, you do indeed need to calibrate the picture. Avia makes a good setup disc and it is kind of the do it yourself gold standard. A google on Avia turned up this info. It was the first item in the google return, I know nothing of the vendor. http://www.ramelectronics.net/Video-calibration.ep
JJkizak
I used the Avia on my Sony Bravia LCD46BR2 and for the most part the set was dead on the money except for some backlight, contrast brightness settings. The backlight does diminish over time. Mine since 2006 had to be boosted up a few notches recently. I noticed this after I purchased the LCD 37BR6 for another room. j-malotky
I use the Avia DV too. Takes some time but results are great. JM
