  1. I had to send my 3910 in for service today. The HDMI output quit working. Luckily it is still under warrenty. I'm really going to miss it while it's gone. The video is outstanding. I use the HDMI out upconverted to 720p into my DLP TV. DVDa and SACDs sound great. This will be the last DVD player I will ever need until they get HD DVD ironed out, and even then I will keep the 3910 for Hi-Rez music.
  2. About a week ago we watched The Grudge on HBO HD and thought it was pretty good. An hour or so later Ju-on came on Showtime Hd. About 10 minutes into Ju-on I asked my wife if we had seen it before it seemed really familiar to me. It took me a few more minutes before it dawned on me I had just got done watching basically the same movie a couple hours earlier. It was nice being able to compare them like that. I liked The Grudge better but Ju-on was definitely creepy.
  3. I liked it. It was really well acted. Definitely worth a rent to me.
  4. Just got done listening to, Rainbow- Rising lp and getting ready to hear Mountain- Climbing. If I'm still wide awake after that I think I'll put on Jethro Tull- Benefit.
  5. We picked it up a few days ago but have not had time to watch it yet. Looking forward to it.
  6. I know this is gonna show my age, but I never thought of him as Gilligan. He will always be Maynard G. Krebs to me.
  7. 1. 2-channel with Fortes 2. 7.1 with RF7s, RC7, RF5s, and RB5IIs 3. 5.1 bedroom setup with RF35s, RC7, and RF3IIs
  8. I don't watch either one very much any more, and while I believe Letterman has mellowed a little too much with either age or his health issues, I still like Lettermans edgier style more than Lenos how much butt can I kiss in an hour approach.

    Sahara DVD

We rented it last night. The movie was pretty good, the video and audio quality were real good.
  10. It must be Comcast, Letterman and Leno are both in HD on my set. I use Dish and an OTA antenna.
  11. I picked up a Cambridge Audio 640c for my 2-channel setup so my wife wouldn't have to mess with the turntable or lps. I was very surprised how good it sounds. I'm using it with a Parasound amp and pre, and Forte speakers. I don't think it adds any brightness to the sound at all, you're pretty much at the mercy of the cd recording quality as far as how bright it sounds. Probably at least 90% of the time I'm in the 2-channel room I'm playing lps, but on those occasions when I want to hear something that we only have on CD, I'm very happy with the 640c.
  12. It was hard to buy Angelina Jolie playing Colin Farrells Mother. I think she is about a year older than him in real life.
  13. The cork mat on my 16.5 isn't permanently attached to the turntable. It had a second cork mat that came with it when I bought it. Just peel off the paper backing and it's super sticky. I also just wipe it off with a damp sponge.
  14. If you set it up like mine with the TV speakers turned off all you need is an Optical Digital cable from the digital out of the 811, into your audio receiver or pre-pro. You won't need an audio cable to the TV. You will need to go into the 811 setup menu and select Dolby Digital/PCM. I also would run the component video cable straight to the TV if possible.
  15. You will also need to run an Optical Digital cable out from the 811 to get Dolby Digital 5.1. If you do want to use the HDMI input on your TV, you could run a DVI to HDMI cable, but I have heard of people having ghosting issues with that setup.
  16. Are you getting the Dish 811 receiver? If you are that receiver has component and DVI output, but no HDMI. I use the component out on my 811 and the pictures great. I use HDMI out from a Denon 3910 DVD player.
  17. I have both RF-35s and Fortes. While I do think the RF-35s are fine speakers, to me they're not in the same league as my Fortes. I use the Fortes in my 2 channel setup and the RF-35s are in the bedroom 5.1 setup. I have tried them on the same amp I use with the Fortes along with other RF series speakers I have and the amps I use with them and in my opinion they work best for me in a secondary surround setup. Good for surround sound, not nearly as good for music only.
  18. I've had a 52 inch DLP since Feb. and I love it. I'm still amazed how good the picture is. And Indy's right, I find myself watching some really crappy tv shows just because they look so good.
  19. Back in 71 or 72 at the Uriah Heep, Look At Yourself concert, sitting in the 1st row at the old Cinderella Ballroom in Detroit when David Byron Let out his La La Las for July Morning. Damn that guy could scream.
  20. But, she's not your mother, so those dirty thoughts are ok. Carry on.
  21. I've been waiting ever since I got a wide screen HD tv for the NFL season to start. Damn it looks great.
  22. Congrats, you have a beautiful family. Don't sweat the age thing, I was 42 when I had my first child and it was the smartest thing I ever did.

  24. A lot of good suggestions so far, here's a few more 80s lps that sound really good on my Klipsch. Iron Maiden: Killers, The Number Of The Beast Frank Marino: The Power Of Rock And Roll, Juggernaut Black Sabbath: Heaven And Hell, Mob Rules Dio: The Last In Line Accept: Russian Roulette
  25. Don't worry about the volume numbers from different receivers when watching DVDs. Reference level on an older Yamaha receiver I used to use was at -23, and I watched most DVDs around -38 or so. On my Denon 3803 that I use with seperate amps reference level is at 0, and I watch DVDs around -15. The numbers are different but it's still the same dB level.
