  1. To make a speaker out of phase you would reverse the +/- connection between your receiver and your speaker. that will make the sound more diffused I belive though.
  2. I think that would work and sound fine.
  3. You are correct in the passive subs vs. powered subs but I was meaning ported vs. non ported. I do dissagree in regards to tighter cleaner bass. The passive radiators subs are in my opinion are tighter and cleaner than ported subs.
  4. The RW subs are much better than the KSW they replaced. However, one of the main differnces between the two is the RW is a ported sub and the RSW is passive. Passive subs tend to be more tight and not as boomy as ported subs. If those are your two to choose from I would take the RSW. But I understand price is sometimes an issue.
  5. I was not getting worked up. I was just suprise that you were quoting the MSRP as the price. but know I understand your question. Before the RC-35's came out I purchased a RC-3II for $275 from Ultimate Electronics. I think that retailed for $400. Recently I purchased a Sunfire MkIV sub at the same place for 76% off retail. So 65-80% off MSRP should be the range. It does seem like Klipsch has more room to discount. I have even seen RF-7 at $899 each before any haggling.
  6. "To you think that you can get ther RC-35 for $249? It retails for $400. The RC-25 goes for $280 - is that the center that your talking about? Also the RB-35's go for $600 can you talk down to $479? Don't mean to offend, just wondering." The retail price you are quoting is MSRP. You would be a fool to pay that. It's like a cars MRSP do you pay that? Best thing to do is check prices on line and take that to dealers saying that's what you will pay..9 times out of ten they will take it. Do price research before you shop and NEVER pay MSRP.
  7. Without a doubt I would get a TV first. You have an awsome system and your watching movies on a 14" ?? Next I would upgrade the reciever and the Denon 3803 would be great or a Yamaha 2400.
  8. Here is a system that I would put together Reviever: Denon 1840 $499 DVD Player: Sony DVP-NV685 $190 Front Mains: Klipsch RB-35 $600/pair Center: Klipsch RC-35 $275 Surrounds: Klipsch RB-15 $250/pair Subwoofer: Klipsch RW-12 $500 Total: $2,300
  9. $2,500 is do-able but tight. I assume you have a TV already but here is my 3 cents Your best bet is to buy a package set up from a retailer like Ultimate. The always have setup which pair a Denon/Klipsh or Definitive Tech or Yamaha/Polk with DVD player typically less than 2500.

    6.1 Movie ?

Just remember, there is a difference, like Rich eluded, between DD-EX 6.1 and DTS-ES 6.1. only DTS-ES have 6 seperate (descrete) channels plus the LFE unlike DD which has 5 descrete and 1 matrixed plus the LFE.
  11. I have looked a many TV's as of late..Plasmas, LCD's CRT's and Rear projections from many manufactures...no matter how you cut it the Sony CRT XBR's have the clearest picture.
  12. I wasn't pushing the Sunfire but it would be a good choice if size limitation are a problem..Anyways at $1,400 alot of subs come into play including the RSW-15. You should easily get 20% or more off MSRP if you do your homework and negotiate with them. Good Luck

That would only be used on Dolby Surround formatts.
  14. with $1,400 you can probable the the Sunfire True sub. I got the Mark IV for 1,100. Very small and Very powerful.

    Two Subs

The more the better...I have mine in seperate corners.
  16. Without a doubt you need a power sub to make your system awsome. No floorstanding speakers can provide the punch for explosions and rumbles that DD and DTS movies provide. In order to get that from speakers you would have to have the volume turned so far up. That's were the subs internal amp lets you feel the base without having your speakers cranked to high to enjoy.
  17. Both Skonopo and Vital make excellent points. But John you have and excellent setup. I have no doubts that adding RF-7 to your set up will improve but I am not sold on four rear speakers in most homes. In addition, the two rear center will be the same channel. So unless you have a large back wall I don't think you see any improvement.
  18. The RW-12 will not go down to 20hz..very few do. The RW and RSW are two very different performing subs.

    Mystic River

Very good movie. Lord of the Rings should still win Best Picture at the Oscars.

    Open Range

Is this movie available in Full Screen format..I could only find it in widescreen.
  21. Oh TLBOR, Lord of the Rings Extended Editions are in 6.1 Descrete format...That enough reason to cash in you 401K for a new receiver.
  22. I think you would be hard pressed to find a new receiver that does not support DD-EX and DTS-ES. I have seen $299 receivers that have 6.1 capability.
  23. You are correct in that not many dvd's are are in 6.1 descrete format. But some good ones are. There is a improvement in having 6.1 vs. 5.1 The rear surround sound much more complete. In addition, most receivers allow matrix surround where it mixed the two rear channels. In terms of 7.1 or higher, this is in my opinion not very practical in most homes. In theaters this is more practical due to the size.
  24. Here is my attempt to answer your questions. Without knowing the the system at Harrolds. 1. 6.1 does sound better but it is more likely the system you were listening to. 2. Better speakers sound better (not a surprise) 1. Most manufactures have outstanding models. I would plan on spending atleast $800. 2. If you have the money I would 3. Same as No.2 4 & 5. Depends on your room size but I would use RB-35 are the surround speakers and an RC-35 or another RB-35 as the rear center. In a 7.1 set up I would use two RB-35. If I was replacing my speaker This would be my choice for my room. Front Mains - RF-7 Center - RC-7 Surrounds - RB-35 Rear Center - RB-35 This is my opinion so take it with a grain of salt. As far as receiver goes I would either take the Denon or Yamaha. Hope this helps
