  1. I go to the Salvation Army store, find any LP that interests me, take it out and examine the condition(say aah. If it is nice I give them the buck for it. After I listen to it, if I don't like it I bring it back and donate it. Then I buy some more. It's an addiction. I'm going for a fix in the morning. Rick
  2. mOOn, Around here Great White is still a swear word. I was over by the site of the former Station club the other day. Over a hundred croses and still people standing there clinging to each other. So far no criminal charges have been filed. The owners of the club were fined $1,000,000 for lack of workers compensation insurance and about $40,000 for exit door violations. I'd hide the fact that you have GW cds. The lawyers are suing everything and everyone remotely allied to GW and the Station. Rick
  3. Last night , while surfing ebay, I came across a new in plastic 1/2 speed Who album. Is this 16? Could the dynamics be greater with this speed? Rick
  4. Kelly, you hurt me. I have had an SL1200 for about 25 years and still love it. Here is a little tweak that eliminates most motor noises from the platter. Does anybody know where I can get a new dust cover for this TT? The only one I have ever seen was on British ebay. Rick
  5. I have seen the type of ornate millwork that you describe in some of the mansions in Newport. The ideal would be to get rid of it but, that is not an option. Another would be to build false corners. A quick fix that may work is a sheet of 2lb(1 kilo) ethrafoam cut to size accross the back of the wall with the edges feathered somewhat. When the Khorns are pushed back into their corners it should conform somewhat to the moulding and make up for a corner that is less than perfectly square. You may want to put the ethrafoam in place agianst the corner, mark the pattern of the moulding and carve the pattern out. The ethrafoam will not harm the antique moulding and will be hidden behind the base bin. Just a thought. I'm sure other knowledgable members will have other suggestions for you. Rick
  6. garymd, I bet that you don't have one of these. Signed by Coach Gibbs. Rick
  7. I just got my generators running and tested just in case. Rhode Island is a on the eastern edge of the predicted path but, it's better to be prepared than suprised. We've been without power for more than a week from less powerful storms. We live on the first hill inland from the bay.(elev 50') So we will be safe there. but to get out of my area, there are three miles of tree lined roads and overhead wires. Rick
  8. Yes ,you go crazy. Go crazy? Haven't I been for years? Good night all. I have to get up early to go to the Cup Race in Loudon, NH tomorrow. GO SMOKE! Rick
  9. Sorry, I just had to see if anything magical happens when you hit 100. Rick
  10. 10 ga to the squaker seems a bit much to me too. I am going to experiment with different wire guages from 14 to 24 and whichever sounds best I'll make up a permanent set. I'll be using Al Hirt's " They're Playing Our Song" as the test mule. Lots of strings and a trumphet. A real test for midrange peaks. I may even find that the 16ga tinned original wire is the best. PWK always said that wire is overrated and recommended the 16ga lampcord in the instructions that came with my Khorns. Rick
  11. I put 14Ga OFC to the base bins on my Khorns. Iy did seem to tighten up the base a little. I have not yet touched the wires in the upper section as I am unsure what to use. I don't want to incease the squacker volume although I might want better highs. When I get some new AA crossovers built I'll try some new things. Rick
  12. I think The Man In Black has moved on to a better place to be with with his beloved wife. I have spent the morning listening to Hank Williams. Johnny will also be remembered fifty years after his passing. Rick
  13. maxg, my horns are better than your horns. That could start a flame going. Rick
  14. Gary, To make you ill, what I got was a pristine LP for $1. Rick
  15. I picked up "Excitable Boy" at the Salvation Army. Very nice, excellently produced by Jackson Browne. Rick
  16. Craig, According to the HH Scott web, some 299c's use 233 circuitry with a couple of bells and whistles added. I think that these were the late production models. They use the 6U8 splitters instead of 7199s and have smaller output transformers than the earlier ones. They sound great though. I can only imagine what one might sound like with your mods. Rick
  17. You all have expressed my thoughts more eloquntly than I ever could. God Bless all we have lost and those on the front lines protecting us. Rick
  18. Even at 89.5db an amp would need 56watts @ 101db spl. With 3db headroom that's still 112 watts/channel. Of course the peaks will be much higher than that. Another good sounding combo I've seen on ebay is the Nikko alpha amp/beta preamp. They even sound very good(not great like valves) with my horns. Marantz from the early seventies are also very good. I ran a 2325 reciever for years and loved it. I still fire it up from time to time but the controls are noisey now. Rick PS: Kelly is my sig better?
  19. 50 miles? I traveled further than that to buy my Khorns in 1978. The things we do for love. Rick
  20. I bought a DLP5065 at BB. I kept it for one weekend and brought it back. I was seeing flickering squares in my sleep. I went with a Hitachi 57S500 from CC. About half the price and a better picture. I am very happy with it. Very good expansion modes. Try looking at: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/index.php?s=e7a86c99bbe106fcb00dd27b8792f8b9 for a lot of great info. Rick
  21. Just trying out my new sig. Listening to Genya Ravan and Ten Wheel Drive. Rick
  22. Greg, Did that one hit the reserve? It was nice but I cringe at foreign transactions. bkrop, I noticed the tube list and attributed it to a typo. The layout is the same as my other 299c and they are 1602 no's apart. Just the case and vintage tubes were worth the price I think. Rick
  23. Although I already have a 299c I just could not pass this one up: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3046500612&category=39783&rd=1 There was a $199.95 buy it now. My wife is going to take my computer away! She keeps threatening. I will have a 299c for sale soon. I'll offer it here first send it to NOS Valves and you will be set for life(or that is what you can tell the mrs.) I juiced! Rick
  24. love_hertz, The 3300 is about the same as the discontinued RX-V1 that I have. The specs are the same from what I can see. When I was driving my horns I found it sounded better using my old Nikko Alpha as the amp and the Yami as the processer. Rick
