Any advice to expand one's horizons is good, and I am always for the DIYer's as I think that hands-on is the best way to learn about anything. ---------------- I also agree with Tom on this one. I currently own Khorns and Tannoy Monitor Gold 15". The Tannoys are every bit as nice as the khorns. They don't go up as high as the khorns, but they some good qualities in their own right. Nice overall "smooth" sound to them. I prefer using the Tannoys when listening to Rock and Metal for sure. This isn't to say that the khorns sound bad with rock and metal. They just sound different. Now, I have owned Cornwalls and LaScalas in the past and to me the Tannoys are a much better sounding speaker than both of them. The Las are way to midrangey sounding (No BASS). The Corns have better BASS than the Las, but the midrange is a little too forward except for easy listening jazz. Rock and Roll at louder levels will drill a hole right into your head. I like the option of choosing differenct speakers for different sources anyhow. Like the old saying goes...there's more than one way to skin a cat. I really don't understand how someone would want to own different variations of the same speaker when there are so many other "flavors" to choose from anyhow. All my own opinion of course...
  2. Stereophile sucks. Please don't send them a pair of horns. Klipsch has been making the Klipschorn with very minimal changes since the 40's. It's hard to improve on near perfection... There's your review.
  3. Go with the McIntosh MX-110. These can be had for less than $1k and they have an excellent phono stage.
  4. Looks like you'll have a nice setup if you get the khorns. Then you can move the Belles to the rears and use the Khorns for mains. BASS should dramatically improve.
  5. Had: 1992 KG 4.2 OO 1976 Cornwall WO 1989 La Scala BWL Have: 1980 Klipschorn WO I've climbed the Klipsch mountain and am done...
  6. I would suspect Las might be better with a good sub... I initially had mine running in 2ch and they sounded great. I then re-hooked up my 15" Tannoy Golds and could not listen to the Las anymore. The Las sounded dreadfully midrangey and too forward sounding. Now...the Klipschorns I recently bought are a nice well-rounded speaker.
  7. He also copied my text. I had been reading recently about fraud problems with ebay. This instance just raises a red flag with me. Selling $5 - $50 items and then suddenly $1000 - $1500 items and then bamm!
  8. Hey, I didn't realize I didn't sell my La Scalas already and am now selling them again in GA? Hey, I thought I lived in MN? What about my new Khorns...how do I have room for these too? Whatchit! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=61378&item=5714433930&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5703549612&ssPageName=STRK:MEUS:IT Already reported to eGay... Man I am really enjoying the khorns. Listening to The Who Quadrophenia...I have never heard Entwistle's BASS sound so good. Very defined like coming out of a BIG 'OL HORN or something....Good Stuff!

  10. Here's my old 2 channel rig a ma jig... I have since sold the Las and just yesterday got a pair of '80 Walnut khorns. I'll try and get some new pics... The speakers on top of the Las are Tannoy 15" Monitor Golds. They sound really really good. I actually prefer them to the Las Thus, the Las don't reside here anymore...
  11. The only real way to identify what year your Belles are, is to send them to Dale Walker. Once he gets them, he can date them by looking at the number of lines in the wood grain. Send Dale a PM.
  12. My vote goes for the La Scala's. 3-Way-horn-loaded for the price of Cornwalls.
  13. Wow If they sound anything like they look...heaven on earth... Nice job...
  14. The 30's sound as good as they look. Congrats

  16. Hey Kevin, Yes it was nice to meet another Klipsch-o-phile. Yeah, I think if they end with noone bidding I'll try a different strategy... No big deal... I do have 48 people watching them so ya never know... You'll have to stop by sometime with the 45's. I'd be interested in hearing them. Although, it's kinda tough to make a fair/good comparison with such a short audition. A person almost needs to live with something for a while to really get used to/appreciate the sound. You'll have to pick up a pair of 30's, I think you'd like them with your Belle's. Just what you need is another pair of amps... Charlie

You have to do what's best for you and yours. These guys took a huge pay CUT to go to the Lakers in order to fulfill their childhood dreams. More power to them. David ---------------- The thing that bugs me with Payton and Malone going to the Lakers to win a championship is that they could not do it on their own terms & team. Taking a pay cut in order to win a ring is like them buying a ring and not EARNING the ring. They couldn't do it on their respective teams so they had to do the next best thing and take a pay cut to put themselves in the best possible situation for winning a champioinship. If they somehow are able to win, it will be nice, but not nearly as nice if Seattle had done it in '96 and Utah had done it in '97. Not even close! They can thank Michael Jordan for this.... I'm glad they aren't going to get a ring with this Laker team... Dangit...foiled again...
  18. End's today. No bids as of yet. Hmmm? Klipschorn in the front....Las in the back? Probably sound pretty nice...
  19. I think those would be nice for floral arrangements.
  20. I'd go for the NEW limited edition box set from CCR "Absolute Originals" on the Analogue Productions label. "You can bet your arse that Fantasy is kicking themselves for not doing this themselves. And when Analoge Productions license term is up in a year or so, you can bet your butt that Fantasy will call back the masters and re-do it themselves, with extra added treble for more "detail". Then, the Analogue Productions version will pass into history and you will be kicking yourself for not buying it when you had a chance! Trust me on this. Remember DCC?" Only 2500 copies available...I got #0026
  21. I use a Marantz DV-8400 and I have no complaints. It reads: CD, CD-R, DVD-A, DVD-R, DVD+R, MP3, SACD, VCD & SVCD. It does have the chroma upsampling bug, but, I primarily (99%) listen to music on it. Sounds open and airy...detailed. I bought it for the sound quality. Nice unit. Here's some good info on the unit: SACD/CD/DVD/MP3 PLAYER Strike Gold! Marantz took the award winning DV8300 universal player and made it even better. 22. Here's the real truth I've been hiding for several years... All receivers are the same. All preamps are the same. All amps are the same. All speakers are the same. All turntables are the same. All speaker wire is the same. All interconnects are the same. All source material sounds the same. Digital is the same as analog. I just had to get it off my chest...
  23. Kevin, I like them both. The only reason I'm not using the MAC's is that I don't currently have a rack that can properly protect them from 2 boxers rough housing around. I had them hooked up for a while, but they were sitting on top of the speakers which is not at all ideal. I do have shelves built into my walls that I may use for the MAC's. The MAC's seem to be more sensitive than the 8b. They allow me to hear just that much more into the music. I'll let you listen to both on Sat. Charlie
