  1. I think you can get a very decent projector with Infocus and save a few bucks over high end sharps and sonys. I like Infocus because they use Faroudja processors. As for everything else, go and listen. Choosing is half the fun unless you don't have good stores near you. chinoloco
  2. I used to own a rental over on W. 12th, near the staples center. Did downtown deteriorate that quickly?
  3. its a nice idea for someone who wants high end stuff but don't want to try out different manufacturers like many of the board members here. Seems like too much money for speakers that seem to resemble RB15s.
  4. I agree with Indy that the sammy 931 is a good player. Still.. its important to get a TV that supports it. I have problems getting 1080i to work so I may need to update my tv soon. more excuses to get a new TV..even though I just got one.
  5. I have the samsung 931. I am a little annoyed as my Philips TV cannot support an upscaled 1080i image over the DVI input. I can only use this player in 480P mode. I am interested to see if there is a huge difference with 1080i upscaled. Still for 931, I did a little comparision with a regular progressive scan DVD player. Some observations from my TV: 1. Picture over DVI looks so much brighter and more richer colors. The good thing is there was not over saturation in the colors, so to me, it was a pleasing difference. 2. Upscaling does not work over component cables.. a sore spot with me and a major weakness since my stupid TV can't figure out what the image is when the samsung is set to upscale to 1080i. 3. Remote control really stinks with not a separate fast forward button. You have to hold down the chapter skip button to fast forward. Very shortsighted and dumb if you ask me. 4. No button on the remote to change the resolution..from 480p to 720p to 1080i. 5. Some stupid philips tvs will not allow you to try out the 1080i images because according to Philips Tech Support, its not native 1080i so the TV has problems figuring it out. (lame excuse). Other than that.. images over DVI rock. very nice color.
  6. I prefer the stuff from Rat Shack. Its cheaper and my living room is not design to be able to tell the differences from a cable. Mostly, its just hype and a feeling you get knowing you paid alot of money for copper. I admit it, I have monster speaker wire. I got it at a very good price so I didn't pay a markup. thats why I got it. Otherwise, I think its not too much difference from radio shack and others. I am sure long runs of interconnects might make a slight difference, but even there I am doubtful. I have run so many video interconnect tests to the naked eye and I really can't tell any difference from Monster Video 1, video 2 and video 3 to the cheap ones supplied with the DVD player. I "think" I feel better with the thicker insulation of monster and phoenix gold and radio shack AVfusion cables, so I go with those interconnect cables instead.
  7. They didn't seem to impress me for regular cable. I might need to check it out again. James
  8. Also, to answer the other question, TV at 16:9 is a must. I will not buy a 4:3 anymore. James
  9. I dunno. I have look at plasmas and everything I want is 5-6K. I think I am going to drop my TV budget quite a bit as I just got a Klipsch setup. I couldn't resist. It felt so good to listen to Klipsch again. I just put a RF35, RC35, RS-35, RSW-10 system on layaway. I wanted to just pick up 2 Gallo speakers (the little globes) and I head into the Expo room at Good Guys for the hell of it. Never did buy those gallo speakers. I wanted to test my ears out after months without my klipsch speakers and true to form, the sales guy selected a bunch of speakers... every speaker I picked out that I liked was a Klipsch Reference speakers (against Energy, Monitor Audio, Boston Accoustics and even Bose. The funny thing was, when he played the bose, I was like.. this doesn't sound right. damn salesguy was messing with me). My favorite ended up being the RF35s over the RF5s. I guess I was sold at that point. James
  10. Hi all, I am back for a visit. Going through the divorce things. things are rolling along nicely. I have decided I want a new TV to replace my Sony 36XBR400, a nice 4:3 tv for a Widescreen TV. I can spend up to 4K, but I prefer to always find a "deal" if you know what I mean. The TV stand will be about 5 feet from the bed so I was thinking about a 34inch Tube, but that 43 inch DLP from Samsung looks so nice and I think "BB" even has it on sale right now. Anyways, any suggestions? Also, All my home theater stuff has been sold. All I have left was the 2 tvs, the sony and the philips. I got the samsung DV931 DVD player. The color is nicer then the regular dvd players, though, I didn't notice alot of upscaling that the DCDI chip was supposed to do. However, the colors are more vibrant over DVI. Anyone else have some thoughts on this? When I buy a house again sometime next year, I will get a new system based on Pioneer Elite VSX-55TXi and DV-59AVI surrounded with the RF35s and RC25 and a RSW10. However, what is your recommendation for the time being while I am renting an apartment? Space is a huge consideration. I prefer not to need to buy stands. I see some cool speakers that look like little globes from goodguys that were cool looking and could sit on a table or the floor or anywhere. I need to find out the brand, it was a nice setup. anyways, nice to see everyone still around.
  11. Thanks for the kind words and advice. The separation thing is going well under the circumstances. Sure there are tears.. but we get over them. We are better friends then a married couple. After she goes and returns from a short trip to China, I will probably go through a divorce. Thanks again for the words and advice. James
  12. Hey everyone.... Its been a great time even though a short time on the forum. I am not gone but I will visit alot less frequent as I am going through major changes in life. I have decided to separate from my wife after 3.5 years of marriage. We are just too different people and its best to separate so we can both be happier. I guess I do not want to be those people who stay married for 25 years, end up hating each other and both people have wasted their lives for nothing. I told my wife, I am giving back her life. I am giving my wife the freedom to choose her own Path for once. She has always been dependent on her family and me. By forcing her to go out on her own path, she has been decidedly happier and so far, 2 days into the separation, she appreciates the fact she can do what she wants for the "first time" in 26 years. She is obtaining confidence and its great to see her want goals for once. She has pretty much always just did what her family thought it was best, never having to need to think for herself. I am relieved too because the arguing, yelling and resentment has stopped. I am actually more supportive of her as a separated husband/friend then as a husband. The past two days since the separation has been the best days in quite some time. Sorry for writing this to those people who are not interested. I just thought to thrown a note for those who got to know me a little bit and would wonder.. "where the in the world did he go"? I will still continue to occasionally visit. peace James
  13. Scott, I have the 45A, not the 47Ai. I don't have Ilink. I also have the 45TX, so no ilink for me. James
  14. I would like to see the 59 in action to see if the Bass Management is any improved. James
  15. If you are more interested in HDMI, please visit this site: http://www.hdmi.org/press/release_072503.asp
  16. The 59AVi is a "universal player so it can play SACDs as well. It has the "ilink" (firewire) which is the only digital medium for SACDs. Also, it will be supporting the new HDMI connectors for Hi-Rez Audio. Read about it here: http://www.eedesign.com/pressreleases/prnewswire/96967 http://www.digitalproducer.com/2003/09_sep/news/09_01/pioneer095.htm it looks like its the first universal player that will allow digital formats for both SACDs and DVD-A. I think the 55TXi will completely support the 59AVi so having the Pioneer DVD player will allow you to utilize these technologies.
  17. I am not a country fan, but I do know Johnny Cash as a legend in that field, so wishes and support to his family. ritter on the other hand was a big part of my life. When I was younger, I watched three's company all the time and john was just a very funny guy living out almost every guy's dream on TV (which guy wouldn't want 2 single cute female room mates?) the thing that always gets me about his death much like john candy and chris farley, is that its just so sudden. thoughts to his family and to everyone on the board. its just sobering to realize we all are here today and possibly gone tomorrow.

My Ultimate goal is to have a set up for movies and a set up for music. Space is incredibly limited with the new subs. I would like to get a seperate setup for music, just something a little warmer for the sit back enjoy some smooth jazz, while reading a book and sipping brandy. Before that I have to start listening to jazz and sipping brandy. All in all I love the pioneer sound and have for quite a while, heck well over 14 years. ---------------- You are going to get the 59TXI and the 59AVi? jealous... My budget will "force" me to "settle" for the 55TXi. Oh well. I think Scott/Orange should think about the 59AVi for his 55txi he hopes to get. As for listening to jazz, there is alot of stuff out there. You can always start with the names like miles davis jr. or john coltrane. marsalis, koz and the newer generation is very good too. its funny, I love jazz, used to play it when I was active on saxophone, yet I have very few Jazz CDs. It just doesn't "feel" right for me to listen to jazz on CDs. Its hard to for me to listen to jazz in any format besides "live". I cannot give you any tips on brandy except for the more $$ is costs, the smoother it is generally....

With that said I like the pioneer and the sound. The family nope. The pioneer will take full advantage of the Klipsch horns. In one of the Jurassic Parks there is scene where the trailer gets pushed over the cliff and the back glass window starts to crack. This being one of my demos I take with me to stores, I ahve watched it over 30 times. The Pioneer 43, 47, 53, 49 truly make this scene realistic. The only system I think that sounded better was the Lexicom, as it should. The 49txi is great for fantastic for music as well for movies. If you like brightness and detail the Pioneer is for you. Someone in the forum just purchased the 55txi, the 59txi will be out in november. I really like the 49txi and have grown to accept the fact that the family would rather watch the E channel than a movie with me . So instead of buying new speakers or a new receiver I bought new subs. Take a listen to the pioneer and do notlet the features be pursuade your decision. Tak a look at HK and Denon. These two model also complete Klipsch very well. I am thinking about the Pioneer 59txi for a december delivery Scott ---------------- So true. So true. I like my music and movies with detail. I guess some people would want a blah sound reproduced as a blah sound. I guess since klipsch seems to have a aggressive sound, its even more pronounced with the Pioneer Elite behind it. Scott, Are you going to get a newer universal player as well to take advantage of the "ilink" for SACD? Just wondering because that is the route I am going to for Christmas. I think Pioneer will come out with a DV-59Ai soon. Hopefully they get Bass Management perfect this time.
  20. DV-45A is already down to $315-330 on most websites. James

  22. If $$ is the name of the game, go with the new RW line. I have the RW-10 and it matches pretty well with my RF-15s which is close to your SF-2.
  23. Philips makes a fine RPTV. With their MATCHline products, the regular analog signals are clean up alot so they look alot better. Pioneer Elite TVS get rave reviews too. I was not that happy with the Mitsubishi RPTV, so I got a Philips Matchline.
