Much more than an illusion of control but a defacto means to change what you're hearing. A lot of us still use gear withhout remotes, but even with digital equipment we still have the same three "knobs". Sure I fiddle around with them from time to time but basically they are set straight up, "flat" I guess it's called. Question is, is this optimum, or merely a starting point to musical nirvana. I mean, didn't the designers of these amps have that in mind when they "tuned" these things or was it simply designed to place their "zero" settings so it appealed to the greatest number of average joe buyers. I guess I'm asking how to you guys deal with these three knobs? ---------------- Flat is flat. If settings are at "zero" and reperduction is not good, then speaker placement, room treatment, ect. should be adusted. Regards, Terry
  2. ..........The best of both worlds is to use the Klipschorn bass horn with an Altec midrange and a better tweeter...... Q-Man, the 511b/902-16a atop the Cornwall is also an outstanding hybrid! (still working on a K-77 replacement) Regards, Terry

I would go with khorns or Cornwalls used. But, if you are set on RF-7's, budget money for Deano's upgraded crossovers. I had the opportunity to listen to RF-7s stock and then with Deans crossovers. Same room, same souce, same day. Deans crossovers for the 7's are a cost-effective must. The improvement is night and day. Buy cheap wire and interconnects and use the $ for great Crossovers. Focus on the cost -effective improvements, one thing at a time. Regards, Terry
  5. Yep. Thats what mine looked like just before the K-33 coil jumped out of the gap. Ooops! TC

If so, would it be useful(or interesting) to test its assumed identical '75 mate and compare. Regards, Terry
  8. Thebes, many thanks for the wonderful weekend! The choice of music was outstanding. But, I am getting a little concerned about Bubbles. I am afraid that she is getting serious. That sort of thing is commonplace for me. It must be the way I part my hair. ( extra wide )............. IB Slammin (last weekend anyway)

  13. Dont know about the TT's but I LOVED the carts back in the 70's. I cant remember the model number. The cartridge I used had a sapphire cantilever. Had an adapter to fit the Empire TT. Made Shure and Ortphon(sp?) sound like a railroad spike. IMHO tc
