  1. I don't want to bias you more any more than I have, so you can click and watch the full unbiased, and balanced report [8-)] "If I only had a gun" http://abcnews.go.com/2020/ It almost make me want to join the NRA...
  2. If you had a gun? http://abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=7278669 All I know is I've been banned three times now from "your trusted source" at AB Sleaze for posting benign comments, that were no more offensive than their "unbiased" report was. Don't post any comments like idiots should be outlawed from owning guns just like idiots should be outlawed from having childern, or they'll ban you too!![] here's another guy's comments that keeps getting deleted: Why do my comments on ABC's illegal method of purchasing the firearms (a Federal crime by the way) keep getting deleted? (rhetorical question) Posted by: Lerxst2112yr97 10:23 PM Mark As Violation
  3. Count me in as one with a herniated disk. Mine's in my lower back. I quit going to a chriopractor after I bought an inversion table http://www.energycenter.com/ I paid about $150 for mine. Often I will hear a series of pops as my back stretches back out. The inversion table is sort of the poor mans version of one of these http://www.vax-d.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx For muscle tension, or knots in the neck and upper back area, massages work great, but at $30 a trick, they become expensive. I went on ebay and bought a cheap $25 "tens" unit that I zap my neck /shoulder muscles with. It's hard to believe, but for me at least, it unties the knots. after about 20 to 30 minutes. Yoga is also supposed to be excellent. It looks easy as hell until you try to do it [:$] Good luck!
  4. Hey, I admit I'm pretty much a novice, and my opinion is like everyone's sphincter, but when I hear reports the RT-12d doesn't go deep, Or doesn't have enough power. I just have to throw the BS flag....are we talking the same sub?? Really? Screw the charts, though I loved the flat line chart of the RT-12d, How's this for real world data. My house is concrete block. In the middle of the house I have a brick fireplace that acts as a room divider and on the back side contains our kitchen wall oven. The oven is 30 feet away from the subwoofer...which is in another room separated by a concrete wall. The room the sub is in is 24' by 24'. At 75% volume, I can get the wire shelves to dance inside the wall oven Glassware and dishes are doing the tango in the kitchen cabinets. This sub doesn't go LOW enough?? Give me a freaking break. It goes low, it''s clean, it's tight, it's controlled ,it's more than I need and it'd destroy my house if I let it. At full volume I'd have 4 cheeks and two chins shaking. As it is I already have nails and screws backing out of my drywall from shaking the crap out of the house. I don't know who did the demo for the naysayers, but they need to set the controls themselves and listen again because they certainly are not feeling the same sub. Maybe it's me, and I'm too dumb to know that what I really own is a POS. I do know that I'd need to move into a bomb helter to own something "better". Just exactly what are you listening to at 20hz anyway?
  5. Is it Shack or Inn??? http://cgi.ebay.com/Chicken-Inn-Restuarant-Black-Americana-Ad-Fan-Print_W0QQitemZ400039828595QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item400039828595&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A4%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A200 http://www.coonchickeninn.com/index.html .......... never knew that they had vinyl Lunch Plates though. What a bizarre part of our nations history...
  6. WAAAAAAAAAITTTTTTTT a minute, I see the problem. You're up in Gulf Breeze.... That's not Florida...that's a suburb of LA........ Lower Alabama[] That's the problem!!!
  7. I don't know where you're been, but this is the first rain we've had in MONTHS. Right now we're 5 inches in the hole on average. Frankly, I hope our Spring time is wet as hell. There seems to be a coorelation to wet Spring/ few hurricanes, and a dry Spring where you'd better watch your a$$ come hurricane season....just something I read...
  8. Yeah, you're right. The V version will be a monster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ares_V and should be louder than the original Saturn V with the addition of the two SRB's. I was thinking of the manned crew launch vehicle when I made my remark. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ares_I There's a BIG difference between the two. You're not the only one that has those hopes, but with the budget battles ahead it's going to be tough. I'm really afraid that like everything else this Country does, we are just going to pave the way and abandon the project as soon as it's done...if not before and let our foreign "friends" take the lead.
  9. I have a RT-12d (with special thanks to Mike Colter) and I love it. Seriously, I could not ask for anything more, at least in my room. I find it tight and controlled and not boomy in the least. Excellent servo control. No, I didn't compare it to a Fathom, but it's hard to believe anything could be that much better if at all. Compared to my old Sunfire, there is no comparison, but that's an apple to oranges deal anyway. However, Klipsch could do a better job with the shipping box. My sub did arrive damaged, from what appeared to be a size 12 boot kicking the living shizz out of the box. No doubt the UPS gorilla got po'd after the hand hole in the box ripped from the weight....
  10. http://cgi.ebay.com/EXCEPTIONAL-BOSE-601-SERIES-II-SPEAKERS-BEST-BOSE-EVER_W0QQitemZ260386179039QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintage_Electronics_R2?hash=item260386179039&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=66%3A4%7C65%3A10%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318 Didn't JBL build a similar speaker? Aquarius?
  11. Mike, you're thinking too hard... This particular launch was as the sun was setting and it was getting dark. So as parts of the suns light hit the trail, it provided different hues, shades, brightness and lighting. Fini, you'd better hurry on down to see a launch as we have just a mere handfull of them left. It's not so much the sight of it as the experience. I live a good 20 miles from the pad (as the bird flies), and depending upon the wind, it'll rock the house when it lifts off. Ares, isn't going to be anywhere near the same when it lifts off...if it ever does.....
  12. Mike you're the photo expert, explain the colors in the dragons tail...we'll see if you get it right []
  13. I imagine the Shuttle lift off would break some windows w/o the sound suppression system...though I'm not so sure about 80 miles away. Anyone want to chase the dragon?
  14. I just turned an old set of Heresy's into deck speakers. Bought them really cheap, and shot the outside of them with a bedliner coating. I had my wife make a set of vinyl slip covers for when they're not in use. These may be too large for you're application, but I guess the message is not to limit yourself....
  15. I imagine real estate will be ultra cheap...if it turns out to be anythng like post Apollo. It should be a real buying opportunity for those with the resources to do so. Launch passes are still out there, but it's nothing like what they used to be, Frankly, I think they've purposely made them such a PITA to obtain, I don't even bother to try. There are far, far fewer of them and the security crap you have to go through, it's just not worth it. I think you can ride a bus from the Visitors Center and pay for the privilege if you choose. They still have some engineering challenges to get over before Constellation ever flies. The workforce will certainly be smaller, so finding a job might be tough to do. I just read the latest Russian Soyuz launch failed to go as planned. They were unable to auto dock to Station, and had to revert to manual control. Their batting average hasn't been too good of late...docking issues, and ballistic re-entries would make me not want to fly.
  16. Hey Jim! I think the SRB's are about 150' long, so that would push them to outside the lmits of "sports diving", though 30 years ago the limits were different then and doing decompression dives were the norm...at least where I was in the Bahama's at the time. I really like the shot of the bird on the pad with the moon in the background. It's one of the better pics I've seen. I don't think most people have any idea how freaking BRIGHT the shuttle is going off at night. I mean the damn thing will blind you almost, and the way it lights up the area is unbelievable. Saturn5...we soon will be experiencing the same thing that happened at the end of Apollo, and is presently going on nationwide with the end of the Shuttle program. Our area is about to get a double dose of the recession, with job losses and people walking away from their houses and mortages. The nation will be pulling out of the recession, and we will be doing a ground hogs day replay. Meanwhile we'll be paying the Russians to be our taxi to the Space Station. Ole Putin, owns us...him and the Chinese.....
  17. I hope this link works http://share.ovi.com/search/solid+rocket+booster?tab=media http://share.ovi.com/channel/Rockets.ShuttleSRBrecov?newsince=1.1.1.0.0.0'> I received these photos via email so I can't take or give credit to whom it's due. I thought they were just too cool not to share. Oh, if you click on the thumb nail pick and then click on it again it'll enlarge the photo to full scale. TC
  18. Like everyone here, I'm sorry for your loss. I should also be clear that I'm far from being an expert on this subject, but I've noticed the prices for almost all vintage audio gear I watch for has been dropping of late. No doubt it's the economy. Case in point I bought a pair of LaScala's for $800 not long ago, that on a scale of 10, I'd give a 9. The only really bad thing about them was the less desireable type AL crossovers. Yeah, I had to drive all of 30 miles to pick them up, but it wasn't long ago these would have gone for $1500 easy. I guess what I'm saying is if you can hold on to them for a little while longer it's possible you may fetch a higher dollar for them in the future. Good Luck.
  19. Nice job, especially on the radius. I'll bet that was hard to do! I have only raw veneer w/o any backing of any kind. Mostly birds eye maple, some burl (walnut if I remember right), and I think I still have some crazy figured bubinga left....which is what I used on my floor that gave me so many problems. I used some of the bubinga on sample piece and it was perfect. Go figure. Why a backed veneer works better than raw is something I'd like to know. I can't see how the glue would prefer paper vs. wood over the other. Maybe it's the added thickness, I don't know. I think they used to use hide glue long ago, when veneer was much thicker. I've used hide glue in my glass etching work. It's normally used to chip glass. basically when it dries it shrinks, and as it does it literally rips the surface off of glass. I don't know how they got away with using it with veneer! Actually the glass in the back ground of this video on veneer ironing was chipped with hide glue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qI2wWSZ8UW8
  20. I've never had any bleed through, just a bad case of the mumps, and not on every project. When I did have air bubbles, they were every where, some big, some pin heads. I thought I had the process down pat as you can tap on the veneer and hear when it's lifted, but I learned that doesn't always work. Reheating the bubbles will get some of them to stay down, but never all of them. I've popped them, injected fresh glue, used damp rags to steam them and even slit them, but haven't found the magic solution that works everytime. For me, using a water base or oil base finish didn't matter either. Different substrates may make a difference, but I don't have the experience to say for certain. I think the 'Master' Greg has said that using paper backed veneer is the way to go....Seriously Greg your work is out of this world. Anyway, that's bad news for me as I have already bought my veneer for my Lascalas (when ever I find the time to do them), and it ain't paper backed [:'(] Yeah, I know it's not too late to buy all new paper backed veneer, but I don't know what I'd do with the stuff I've already bought. It may not matter as termites have probably eaten the veneer I have...it's been that long...
  21. I've done a few projects using Titebond and an Iron with mixed success. It goes on easy and looks good to the point you're patting yourself on the back. Then you apply a finish and that's when the trouble begins... I haven't used Joes glue, so it may be better than Titbone
  22. I'm probably going to get killed for suggesting this... If your Heresey has a removable back, and you have a few extra dollars to play with, this would be a simple, cheap way to do a qucik A/B of your exixting. Cut a fresh piece of plywood to replace the original back, port it and change the existing woofer with a JBL 123a or JBL 2213h. Fs 25hz http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/Thiele%20Small%20Parameters/Theile%20Parameters.pdf Try it out, and compare. If you don't like it, just put the original parts back in. No harm, no foul, and you can always resell the JBL's so you're only out the cost of the plywood, weather stripping and shipping...maybe $50 total. (You can buy 2' by 2' plywood precuts at Lowes for just a few dollars.) You should be able to cut the wood to fit using the original as a template and swap the woofer in less than an hour, so there's no real time loss there. Of course you may also like what you hear... Just make sure you re-weather strip for a proper seal. Obviously, the best way to do this before spending a dime would be to model the above, if you have the software to do so. However, if you're a hack like me, you'll end up doing it the hard way.[] I don't know how much bass you are looking for, but I'm pretty confident you will hear an improved, deeper output with the ported box and JBL's. Just don't expect too much though, as it's not going to compare with a 15" woofer in a larger box.
  23. What got me was those guys not moving. I don't know if they were too scared, drunk, or what. Me...I'd be leaving a trail of money behind. Then again it doesn't take much to roll a yak...
  24. Start your own GOLD mine! How?? Buy a yak, move down under and paddle off the GBR. That's all you have to do. Soon, given a little time, you too will have your own opportunity to become a gold brick producer. Personally, the number of gold bricks that I'd be producing would probably sink a yak, rendering me unable to spend my new found fortune. http://tinyurl.com/83z2je I was attacked by a killer manatee once in my yak, but that's another story......
  25. WHAT?!?!? Why am I always the last to know.... Sorry Mike. Andy, glad you're back too!
