  1. meagain, You're kidding about having your handyman do your electrical work, aren't you? If I were you I'd hire a licensed/bonded electrician with references to investigate to eliminate any potential probleems with your electrical serice.
  2. After my divorce it was necessary for me to downsize. I bought a 1921 CA bungalow (which amounts to a 900 sq. ft. shoebox). I immediately upgraded the electrical service and wiring from the original knob and tube and screw in fuse block. I have seen too many homes go up in flames due to faulty wiring and it's not a pretty site. It may have never been a problem, but that wasn't a chance I was willing to take.
  3. Allan, wow, what a beautiful job on the chassis and end bells. Enjoy
  4. Mike, Just think of the smokin deal you'd get with your employee discount. One can never have enough Klipsch speakers. Especially if he works there. [Y]
  5. Josh, I don't recall mentioning anything about the SET amps playing loud over dinner? And to answer your question, no I do not like yelling at dinner. That would be rude. Perhaps you misinterpreted what I said, so please allow me clarify it for you. SET amps excel at low volume with jazz, we all know that and not many would disagree, certainly not I. So I'll respectfully disagree with you as I'd prefer a SET amp for low level jazz listening, and pCATS or another quality amp for all other listening levels and and genres including jazz. No you did not mention them playing loud over dinner but you implied(as I read it or understood it) that is all they are good for low level Jazz. I agree SET amps are great with Jazz at low volume, they are also great at medium volumes, and in my living room 15 x 15 x 8 they would play very loud and sounded great. I used a Ground Grid tube preamp with the Moondogs and bass sound great to me on my La Scalas. Living room size and speaker used will deterime if a SET amp will sound good or not. I can understand and respect your opinion on SET amps but we will have to disagree on SET amps. To me a great amp is a great amp PP or SET when used in the right conditions. Now you get vilified for someone inferring your were implying something? Easy to define my perception of the 4 SET amps ( one integrated and 3 power amps) I have heard. Sounded like i was listening to a concert from the back 1/3 of the balcony. Poorly detailed frequency extremes, instruments in space not readily identifiable and lack luster attack/ decay. Did heard one homebuilt PP 300B amp on RF-7 that was pretty musical. Never heard Moondogs, perhaps they have some undefined circuit design advantage over other SET amps. I have heard bad PP amps as well; but at least they are not batting .000 in my listening opportunities. The SET amps which I've heard were very well detailed. In fact I'd love to own a pair myself one day for either my dining room or bedroom since that is where I listen to jazz at very low SPL's. Otherwise, they just wouldn't work for me as they tend to fall apart when pushed IMO. As I mentioned earlier, SET amps sound their best at low SPL's. The majority of my listening is done at 80-90 db on my main 2-channel rig. That being said I need something with more power like the pCATS, VRDs or another quality amp for nomal listening.

Congratulations on your primary choice of amp(s) and speakers. We'll agree to disagree on both. I sold my La Scalas and kept my Cornwalls. Enjoy the music!

I will respectively suggest that you and everyone reading this know what your intentions are. I am not going to engage any further in your pathetic attempt in taking this thread down a path we have seen before. Not sure what would cause someone to get so passively aggressive about an amplifier. If it wasnt so sad it would be kind of funny. Josh Josh, I really don't understand why you're getting so agitated and personal.
  8. Send the amps up to NOSValves.com right away

  10. If you want to listen to jazz while conversing at dinner time you should probably consider a good SET amp as this is where they excel. Otherwise I'd go with pCAT's, VRD's or any other quality PP amp.
  11. To piggy back on what Allan said, tube amps should not continually blow fuses or tubes! I would have that checked out if I were you.
  12. This one takes the cake Maybe it's BS and just one of the strangest publicity stunts ever?
  13. A belated happy birthday G!!! I am right behind you. Nearly six months to the day.
  14. colter, we're all on pins and needles waiting to hear what Craig said/recommends. Enquiring minds want to know. []
  15. Alan, Just curious, which one sounds better to you and why? BTW colter, if you do decide to go with a Scott amp, don't worry if it doesn't have a case with it. arfz28 builds some killer custom hardwood covers for the Scotts.
  16. Did you talk to Ostby yet? Well, did ya? [Y]
  17. Vintage amps sound MUCH better after Craig checks them out and rebuilds them as necessary. I and others know all too well. What have you got to lose? Jjust pick up your phone and give Craig a buzz at 810-287-6135. I bet he won't steer you wrong. Alternatively, you could buy these along with a JM preamp and be done for good.
  18. Colter, Do yourself a favor and call Craig at NOSValves.com for some good advice. 810-287-6135 Here's a Scott 299D that may be worth bidding on and sending to Craig for a rebuild. I used to own a 299D but I F'd up and sold it when I decided to go seperates. In hindsight I should have kept it. It was that good. I am disgusted that I sold it to my neighbor. Now he won't sell it back to me. [:@] Here's a 299A and a 299C on eBay. Scott integrateds are one helluva an amp for the money. I have owned the 299D and 272.
  19. Welcome to the Forum. I and I am sure that many others around here would recommend a rebuilt vintage Scott integrated as a first step. Call Craig over at NOSValves.com and he'll give you some good advice whichever path you take. I am sure others will chime in as well. Enjoy the music.
  20. No thanks, I am perfectly happy with my Cornwall's. They have bass.
